Details:
Irish born flautist presently living and working in the Netherlands.
Studied flute with Prof. Doris Keogh at The Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, and later continued my studies of flute and improvisation with Dick Gout, Ferdinand Povel, Herb Geller and Dick de Graaf at the Rotterdam Conservatory.
I''ve played with various jazz and jazz-rock groups as well as playing tenor sax in a rock band for a while; in two flute quartets (mostly classical repertoire) and in the Blauwdruk Ensemble which was formed to perform the works of contemporary Dutch composer Nico Huijbregts.

At present, besides teaching flute, I''m experimenting with creating frameworks for improvisation using computer based programs and sound loops and recording these pieces at my own Overloop Studio in Nijmegen.

"This musician from Nijmegen in the Netherlands proves to be a master on various flutes This album is a special treat for all fans of modern and Acid https://www.tradebit.com his new album Three Minute Jazz John Devitt presents sophisticated Jazz improvisations played on various flutes, set against changing Electro Lounge/Hip Hop/D&B “frameworks”, which groove along to the main flute.
Sparse experimental Hip Hop and Drum ‘n Bass loops determine the pace, which gets hectic like on
"Electro Lounge op 1” and “Fast Beat op.1"or atmospheric as on track no. 5, where warm groovy organ chords,
bass loops and spheric keyboard sounds deliver a warmer grounding for John''s fine Jazz flute.
John and his flute describe various short-lived themes and answer to any rhythm with effortless ease, flowing
between cristal-clear high and warm, muddy lower octaves without ever sounding too moody.
On most tracks he’s combined several flutes and harmonies to support the main theme, adding to the moody
but always Lounge-type nature of the album.
Overall John Devitt not just proves to be a master of flutes, he is a multi-instrumentalist with a passion for
free-spirited music improvisations, which give enough room to the listener. He played all other instruments,
that feature on “Three Minute Jazz”, whether groovy percussion on the fourth track “Hip Hop op.4” or a
Didgeridoo on his “Tribal op.1” track No.8.
This album is sophisticated laid-back music for creative moments or when just to lean back and daydream to."
