Greetings all, however you found yourself here!
This is a mindblowing cd! Sure, you may ask, "aren''t they all?"

Well, there are several points to consider that put this recording above the clouds and into [inner]space:

Firstly, jazz great Laura Newman turns in an inspired performance on the saxophone, and is a delight to listen to.

Secondly, beyond the space-themed titles (which oddly enough actually FIT the style of the songs...) these songs are written SEQENTIALLY; in other words, in the order in which you hear them. This album is also a third installment of sequentially written albums by Ted Shinn, the first being "Natural Order," and "Summerland" being the second. Ironically, there have been copycat attempts to garner media-attention but these three albums predate those attempts by a nearly a decade, as "Natural Order" was first published in 1998!

Thirdly, Ted Shinn knows that good songs are about melody, and he applies melody like salve on the wounded soul. Good for the body, good for the soul!

Finally, the tune "In Orbit" is a literally a bubbling fugue of independent melodies rocketing out of this world and into a different galaxy of sound. Yep, it''s that good.
Highlights:
"Starstruck" A delicious, savory, languid anthem that explodes into a funky finale.
"Stardancer" The number one hit on Internet pioneer MP3--is a baroque-influenced melody turned into smooth jazz--plus a sizzling synthesizer lead!
"Nova" Gorgeous sax, gorgeous melody. ''Nuff said.
"Interstellar Joyride" Bizarre mix of sitar, sax, vibes and classically influenced melody.
"Weightless" ...is what you feel when you hear this floating space-station of visual sound. It weaves bassoon with saxophone, and of course, cascades into a dramatic ending.
