MP3 Traumkapitän - Virtue Comical

The mixture of foxtrot, tango, jazz, straight rock and reggae rhythms gives the music a quite unusual postmodern-patchwork feel, and the melodies from jazzy to minor-baroque-pop lend the songs an edgy but catchy character.

Details:
TRAUMKAPITÄN. HOW THINGS CAME TO BE… in 2005-2006 Christian Clement wrote about 12 songs and called the whole thing TRAUMKAPITÄN. The mixture of foxtrot, tango, jazz, straight rock and reggae rhythms gives the music a quite unusual postmodern-patchwork feel, and the melodies from jazzy to minor-baroque-pop lend the songs an edgy but catchy character. Robert Wyatt, the Beatles, Carla Bley (Escalator over the Hill), Sonic Youth, Gainsbourg, Godspeed You Black Emperor!... or anything from Charles Ives to Talking Heads have influenced the music. Christian thought of a kind of a darker Kurt- Weill-type jazz band for his songs and looked for other musicians to work with. A first band with drums, bass, cello and trombone played a few times but some musicians that came from the improvising scene did not entirely fit in with the fully composed music of Christian Clement, so he looked for other musicians and the songs grew with the people he played with. Christian recorded a few sketches on his home computer for promoting the music. He asked David Fettmann, who he met in 2005, to join TRAUMKAPITÄN on saxophone. Jacques Hansel - aka Blue Dressed Man, an ambient-electro artist - joined the project for some time too. He did remixes before there was actually a band. Drummers and bassists played for some time but it seemed that it was not easy to play on this kind of complex piano-pop-songs. He met Luc Caregari. They immediately seemed to be on the same wavelength and Luc was interested in becoming part of the TRAUMKAPITÄN machinery. Chris Belardi and Christian Neyens, a longtime friend, joined the band soon after. They had played a few gigs on the Luxembourg music scene when Rocco Russo offered to produce Christian Clement’s first full-length album. After three months of recording with a new cello player, Olivier Lefèvre, and another new member, Pol Belardi on vibraphone, TRAUMKAPITÄN won the Luxembourg finals to get in the pool for the final selection to present their music at the Printemps de Bourges in Paris. Since then Roxane and Alban Birch have joined the permanent line-up on violin, double bass and saxophone. Further more, Alban took the role as sound engineer. TRAUMKAPITÄN will contribute “House of Glass” to a compilation album by Digital Kranky, a collective based in Berlin. On June 8th 2008 TRAUMKAPITÄN’s first full length album got released (VIRTUE COMICAL). They say Dadadadadadidodadadididododada!
