Growing up in an Irish family, music was the centre of every event. Trish’s father, with his rich baritone voice, was famous for entertaining the crowd with such classics as ‘Pennies from Heaven’ and ‘Sixteen Tons’, while her mother, not to be outdone, began playing Beethoven and Mozart to her babies while they were still in the womb. So it was no surprise when Trish showed an early talent for music and songwriting. This led to piano lessons at the Royal Conservatory of Music where she gained the initial foundation that would allow her to branch out to other instruments such as the alto sax and guitar. While she was a natural in her early lessons, she was forever sliding from the confines of classical to the freedom of the blues.
After a car accident catapulted her off her bike and left her with multiple injuries and a plate in her wrist, she was devastated at the thought of losing the abilities she’d took for granted. It was a wake up call that led her to start seriously developing and sharing the gifts she was given.
With her band “Trish Kerr and the Divas” she has been performing at venues in and around Toronto and is quickly becoming a crowd favorite. To watch Trish Kerr on stage, moving from vocals and guitar, to piano and sax, sometimes mid-song, leaves audiences continually amazed.
“Impossible Divine” is a musical alchemy - both versatile and inventive - written, performed and arranged by a multi-faceted and electric performer.
When asked about the title for the CD, she explains that “Impossible Divine” is ultimately about reaching for that moment when the energy truly connects with the music and lifts us to a higher place. It’s about letting go of the fears that keep us from realizing our potential to discover how extraordinarily divine life can be.
