Born and raised in Harlem, NY JB has been living HIPHOP ever since he can remember. Surrounded by music from his mother being a soul singer in the 60''s as well as church, it seems as music was his destiny. Influenced by soul and jazz cats Barry White (rip), Lionel Hampton, Miles Davis, Prince of the 80''s & 90''s as well as HIPHOP acts Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, JB was able to hone his skills in production and emceeing. JB see''s Dr. Dre, Dj Premier, Marly Marl, Quincy Jones, RZA and The Ummah as the best there is and hopes to reach their level. This self taught piano player Now hails from Albany, NY. JB has been taking music seriously for 10 yrs and has performed with many major and minor signed acts including Big Pun (rip), Lost Boyz, Brand Nubian, The Lox, Beatnuts, Onyx, Common, Mr. Cheeks, Amerie, Nine (remember him?), and many more.
JB started out in 1993 being involved in a group called Mad Flowa''s which included members Harold Denson (Boogaloo), and Steven Frazier (Tech). The group went on to perform and do talent shows at many different venues and colleges. In 1994 the group entered in to a contest that featured 22 other up-and-coming artists both HIPHOP and R&B for a grand prize that included a one year recording contract with 1,500 initial vinyl units pressed and distributed by Queens, NY indie GMV Records. Needless to say the group won first place and eventually signed and recorded material for the indie.
The debut single "Enter The Realm", which hit the airwaves in spring of 1995, received good reviews and was a strong local underground hit with moderate rotation on college radio. Then in 1996 the group went their separate ways to pursue solo endeavors. Since then JB has become a complete artist by taking guitar lessons and producing music for many of the capitol districts HIPHOP artists.
In 1997 JB wrote, produced, recorded and pressed his solo debut 7 song EP Allegory which sold an impressive 2,200 units from October ''97 to April ''98. Then after a small break from the biz, JB accompanied by Tunnel Rat Sev Statik recorded an EP in late ''98 and formed a group called Illumination which set the stage for the follow-up solo LP entitled Total Karnage which had 19 songs and a skit. Released in 1999 and after selling close to 5,000 units JB
went on a small tour of the surrounding states. In 2000 JB took guitar lessons to become adept at playing and acquired an electric guitar which is evident in some of his production style.
Along with Albany''s Pitch Control Music formed in 2002, JB continues to perform at many major venues and colleges across the north east and eastern seaboard. In May 2002, JB along with Dez, Sween, Sev Statik, and Soundwave, collectively known as ALL BULLY, independently released an LP of the same name to much fanfare securing gigs all over the eastern seaboard. The majority of the disc (11 songs out of 15), was produced and arranged by JB. In September of 2002, the Pitch Control Music collective released a compilation featuring artists from the Albany, NY area and beyond
with an All Bully song, a song produced by the RZA for his group The Division, and a JB solo cut entitled "Flawless" which had the masses buzzing for his next opus.
Recently releasing independently an EP entitled Dirty Moses, entirely produced and written by JB, he continues to be a recognizable name in the Capital District and beyond as having what it takes to be a major player in the music industry...
