J.D. Armelin was born in Lake Charles, Lousiana in 1982. Born into a single parent home he was fortunate enough to be taken in by his grandfather, along with his mother and sister. Willie Armelin (J.D.''s grandfather) was an intensely hardworking man who, upon retirement, decided to work another 20 years of his life. J.D. loved his grandfather and looked up to him as "everything that makes a man a man".
J.D. resided in Mossville (a neighborhood in Lake Charles) until seventh grade, at which point he moved to Dallas, Texas for a year only to return to Mossville again. He grew up living with ten family members in a three-bedroom trailer and slept on a love seat from eighth-tenth grade in the front room. J.D. began to discover his inspirations/interests in athletics and music as he grew, and his personal motivations in both helped him uplift himself.
He moved with his mother and sister to the suburbs in 10th grade. They moved to a town known as Sulphur, where J.D. pursued football and became a highly recognized player. He had cultivated himself as an athlete, meanwhile polishing his production and lyrical stylings as a hip-hop producer/artist. At this time music was more of a dream or a fantasy than a practical reality. His focus was on football, which he saw as his strength and most assured route to success. In 2000 he began attending LSU with a full scholarship as he left High School the most highly rated defensive tackle in Louisiana.
To the shock of LSU, friends, family, and the media, J.D. Armelin left football, college, and his scholarship to follow his true passion, music. With $200 in his pocket, he moved to Atlanta with longtime partner Jeremy "Twank" Williams where they found work and a place to live in Cobb County, and began recording. They made a five-track demo there and in the process heard about "Making the Band 2" with P. Diddy in NYC. They headed north with their demo and entered the competition and out of 4000 made it to the last 30. It was then that they were dismissed but they walked away with new contacts and connections. They returned home only to pack up their things and head back to NYC to take advantage of their newfound opportunities.
J.D. and Jeremy slept in their car, in hotel lobbies, people''s houses/apartments, and wherever else they could find a moment to rest their heads. The focus quickly became mainly oriented on survival, and after sticking out the northern winter, the two decided it best to leave and regroup. At his low point, J.D. received word that his grandfather was going to die. He returned home to witness the last breaths of his hero. J.D. promised his dying grandfather that he would succeed in music and see to it his family was protected and comfortable.
J.D. returned to Sulphur to prepare both physically and mentally to return to NY and was reborn with the motivation of maintaining what the generations past had instilled in him. JD began a strict diet and workout regiment. He lifted twice daily as well as ran 3-12 miles a day. He worked in the hot Louisiana sun doing construction to make and save money. He looked towards rap legend LL Cool J as inspiration for perfecting his image. J.D. took pride in his physical changes as well as his up and coming lifestyle changes.
With his body and mind fit and balanced he returned north to meet up with Jeremy Williams in New Brunswick, NJ. It was time to complete his destiny with Jeremy Williams and new partner Will Mellinger. J.D. was finally able to begin to propel his dream towards success.
