ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: Power Pop

Details:
The first of many new releases this year culminating with the full length CD ''Bombasticide'', "I Would Steal the Sun" is a sweeping representation of a recording artist in the grip of heightened inspiration. From the power pop through the progressive of the two original tracks on the single, "I Would Steal the Sun" and "Digital Vagabond", to the heavy hitting cover tunes, "Dusted" by Tanya Donnelly and "Lunatic Fringe" by Tom Cochrane, it''s obvious John Dolan Russell is a recording artist with a mission.

Since recording ''Feast of Exploding Heads'' with Kicking Poets in 1994 and doing the soundtrack for the indie film "Conversations" in 1998, years of soul searching, traveling, and a rededication to the craft of songwriting and production find John Dolan Russell in Seattle recording his first solo project.

"I''m excited about the songs and Marc (Miller) is a very knowledgeable and imaginative producer with an intense work ethic," John commented on the recent sessions.

With a state of the art recording studio and some of the best musicians in the Seattle area, including Art Bromage on guitar (Freddy Pink Band, Sonya Kaye) Marc Miller (Producer, bassist...also works with Freddy Pink and a ton of other bands in the area) Rick Bowen, drums (Stonebender, Hettel Street Blues Band) John Dolan Russell is producing a sonic vision based around guitar, drums, bass and vocals and is adamant about capturing raw live performances without the use of slick editing, keyboard layering or cut and paste type recording more prevalent in some of today''s modern rock music.

"It''s important to me that there''s a cohesive sound on this disc. These instruments are the core of a great rock band. They''re all you need and getting something raw and live, guts and all truly captures the feel of a track better than anything else. There''s a lot you can do in such a great studio space with just those instruments. It''s nice to get back to the basics," John recently reported on https://www.tradebit.com

After 20 years of recording in all the evolutionary mediums of studio tools, 2005-2006 will witness some very special sounds emerging from the Northwest. Watch for two more singles, including the song ''Over You'' which those close in the camp believe is John''s best song ever, before the release of Bombasticide in November of 2005 and a very special live performance in the Seattle area.
