Details:
Karma-Ann Swanepoel is a South African singer-songwriter and the former lead singer of platinum-selling band Henry Ate, with a few SAMA nods and awards under her belt (the South African equivalent of Grammys). Her time in South Africa was well spent releasing four critically acclaimed studio albums, “Slap in the Face” (1996), “One Day Soon” (1998), “Torn and Tattered” (2000) and “Henry Ate: 96-02 The Singles” (2002) producing a bevy of chart-topping singles and several No. 1 hits. Seemingly overnight, Henry Ate became the most popular female-fronted band in the history of South Africa. In 2001, Henry Ate’s song “Just” was voted South Africa’s No. 1 song of all time by Radio 5 FM’s listening audience.

Karma moved to the US in 2003, bringing with her an undeniable talent and an uncanny ability to captivate every listener with her addictive songs and mesmerizing performances – even voted sexiest female performer by South Africa’s Sunday Times. Working as a solo artist under the name KARMA, this indie folk rock artist was quick to release her American debut and fifth studio album "Don''t Walk Fly" (2005) with Grammy award winning engineer and producer Scott Canto. KARMA toured extensively in support of the album, receiving rave reviews throughout the US, UK and South Africa.

Karma’s new release, “papercuts,” a 15-song collaboration with Grammy award winning engineer John D. Thomas (Lauryn Hill, https://www.tradebit.comdy, Prince, Missy Elliot), showcasing her range of songwriting styles. From the social commentary of the title track “Paper Cuts” and “The Riddle” to the dance floor tracks reminiscent of The Killers, “Hollow” and “The Clown” to the heart-wrenching ballads “Venus and Violet” and “Monster” (to be featured on season 6 of the hit show L Word with a performance by Karma), “papercuts” delivers blow after blow in Karma’s unique satirical style.

Also included on the album is the track "once" which is making national headlines after rap superstar Lil’ Wayne sampled it off her independent release “Seven Songs” (2003). With over 3 million downloads on MySpace, his underground hit “I Feel Like Dying” may very well show the rest of the world what South Africa already knows, "Here is an amazingly prolific young songwriter who is teetering on the brink of worldwide recognition," Roger Kash, Empire Musicwerks
