It has been the driving force behind Jim Said since the very beginning.
When the band first came together in 1998, the only goal was to make music that they could enjoy.
Coming from a small town where the focus was on sports and not music, the band had to go against the odds.
They were all high school friends who liked music.
Craig Fahrenkrug and Mark Moore had already been in a couple of different bands together, but they wanted to start a new band that would be a serious commitment.
Craig and Mark got together with Hans Klein, the drummer for the high school Jazz band Andy MacArthur, a classmate.
Six months following the formation of the band, Lead Guitarist Andy MacArthur decided to part ways with the band, and Greg Sealock, a friend of the band, took the position as lead guitarist.
In the early months of 2000, Jim Said had to make a change in its line up.
The musical ideas of some of the members began to conflict.
At the same time, the current drummer was getting ready to graduate and go away to college, making it difficult to play.
They were also in need of keyboard player.
It was a hard decision to come to, but they decided to replace their drummer and add a keyboard player.
Mitch Munson, who was a long time friend of Craig, was asked to become the new drummer.
He played drums throughout high school in the Jazz band, and had also played in a previous band with Mark and Craig.
Kelly Rath had been in the same class as Mark and Craig.
She was known for her excellent piano playing abilities and her incredible voice.
The band decide to ask her if she would like to join the band as the new keyboard player and backup singer.
Both joined the band in March of 2000.
Having songs that range from acoustic to hard rock, Jim Said''s music reaches across the spectrum of rock.
It is a variety that has seemed to attract a diverse fan base.
Lead singer and guitarist, Craig Fahrenkrug, has a uniquely advanced style of writing, using a variety of different tunings to give each song its own feel.
He has been influenced by bands; such as the Goo Goo Dolls, Everclear, and Bush.
Many of the songs have a common idea: seeing life from a different perspective than how people usually do.
Greg Sealock, whose biggest influences are Jimi Hendrix, Pearl Jam and the Goo Goo Dolls, also writes songs in the same sort of feel as Craig.
In recent months, Jim Said has been working hard on their first full length album, a project that has been their focus since they first formed.
The album contains songs that show the diversity of the band over the past two years.
Many fans have surfaced as a result of the band playing shows to build support for the upcoming album.
They will be greatly pleased at the band''s ability to show the world from a different view.
