Details:
“Future/Elsewhere/Past” is a tribute to the musical ideas of Paul Buckmaster as he initially conceived the music for the composition “On the Corner”. Miles Davis asked him to write some musical settings in 1972 for an upcoming album recording session. The idea was that they would combine street grooves, and African and Indian percussion with European avant garde music. The grooves would be turned “on” and then they would turn “off” and drift into avant garde space. For what ever reason, “On the Corner” didn’t end up having the radical drop offs into outerspace that Buckmaster initially planned. I thought about what if this structure of “on and off” was followed, then what would the music sound like? “Future/Elsewhere/Past” is my interpretation of the musical structure of “On the Corner” as Paul Buckmaster initially conceived it.

“Dr Miles & Mr Hyde” is a playful examination of the dual nature of a particular Gemini.

“Switched on Bitch” is a conflation of the “switched on… genre” of synthesizer albums with the name of Miles Davis’s “Bitches Brew” .

“Amen Bach” is a tip of the hat to Joe Gibbs and the Professionals’ “African Dub Chapter Two “. Two of the tracks (“Mackarus Dub” and “Heavy Duty Dub”) have some superb Moog synthesizer by Horsemouth over the main rhythm track. Dub and Moog is a marriage made in heaven, too bad there aren’t more tracks like that. “Amen Bach” is my contribution to the “switched on reggae” genre.
