Roy Justice – Time Travelling Minstrel: Bio

Time Travelling Minstrel - A ‘travelling musician/storyteller’ who presents fun and interactive programs in which historical subjects are combined with the folk music of the period through storytelling techniques.

A Little history, a little mystery, and a lot of fun!

Roy has been bringing ‘history to life’ through music and storytelling for over 25 years! He is a 1976 Graduate of Mansfield University (Mansfield, PA) where he earned his B.A. Degree in Music, emphasizing Musical Theory and Composition and Performance in Voice, with additional studies in pedagogy with Ralph Appleman, Indiana U at Bloomington.

He was raised in the New York City suburb of Massapequa, Long Island, NY, was a resident of Bethlehem and Nazareth, PA, for 28 years and now calls the Borough of Chambersburg, PA, ‘home’ since 2004.

In addition to performing regionally Mr. Justice teaches voice, beginning guitar, songwriting, and drama (emphasizing musical theater) at the Cumberland Valley School of Music in Chambersburg, located on the campus of Wilson College.

Roy has been a repeat performer at Musikfest, Bethlehem, PA, The International Music Festival in Schwabish Gmund, Germany (Sister Cities Festival), and, at age 17, was a soloist at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, NYC!
He has been a featured Canal Historian at Hugh Moore Park, in Easton, PA, and has presented programs at the Waterloo Canal Festival (Stanhope, NJ), Delaware State Fair, Mayfair (Allentown, PA), Historic Days in Belvedere, NJ, Spirit of the Jerseys State History Fair (Titusville, NJ) and at many schools, churches, and community centers throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and in Maryland.
Mr. Justice has recorded and released two CDs of 19th Century Canal Period and Original Songs entitled Down Canal on the Lehigh (2001) and Of Canals and Coal (2007).

Attending Lifegate Ministries church (Waynesboro, PA), he is a member of the sound and worship teams. Bible storytelling is one of his favorite pastimes!

Roy comes by his storytelling and musical gifts honestly! His Great-Grandmother was a well known storyteller in the Asheville, North Carolina, region, and he is a distant cousin to the revered Civil War poet and musician, Sydney Lanier.

Mr. Justice continues those traditions today and is currently working on educational DVDs of his program materials for the Home School and Education Communities.
