Details:
"Music From Ground Zero" began on September 11th, 2001.I began writing the first song as I waited in line for a ferry across the Hudson river to get me out of New York City and over to New Jersey. The Towers had already fallen and I had made my way to midtown hoping to get off the island. I knew that many of my friends and former co-workers had not made it and as I rolled through their names and faces I began to feel a song emerging from within. I knew I wouldn''t be able to explain the horrific tragedy we all had witnessed that morning merely through words. I dedcided song would work far better. In the next few weeks I began recruiting musicians to head into a downtown studio in Tribeca to begin recording. Nothing fancy. Just music from the soul and heart that would honor lost friends and unknown victims. A way to remember all of them. The skies were still dark in New York and the buildings still burned. The city wept. We did as well.

On 9/11 2002 we did our first annual MFGZ charity/ benefit gig to honor all those lost and raise some money for a local educational charity. Later that year I released the first MFGZ cd and was able to send it over to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan along with numerous schools around the U.S in an effort to bring everyone a little closer to Ground Zero. We continued making music and doing the annual show at The Knitting Factory. The music became our therapy. More importantly it told a story and it ran through all the stages of anger, disbelief, heartbreak and ultimately acceptance. We felt the phoenix rising from the ashes. The world would heal through music.

This is the second MFGZ cd. The styles have changed a bit. It is less anthemy and has more edge. It''s less about specific loss and more about changing the world. We all have the love and the force to make this a better planet. We just need to get together.
