Music is my response to life. It is my spiritual discipline, my prayer, my quest for meaning and my vehicle for sharing myself and what I’ve found. Music is a mystery to me. I don’t know what wise, inner power opens my mouth or drives my hand to reach for my guitar or piano, when I reach the depths of despair, frustration, anger or ecstasy.
My songs are my response to personal and societal challenges. Many are songs of self-discovery and recovery: the pain of letting go of the familiar, self-destructive ways of relating, the dance of hope and fear, going into the unknown within ourselves and each other, the tender new shoots that declare again and again that wholeness is our essence and always within reach if we reach out to each other, to God (however we understand the Mystery), to our own deepest truths. My songs are theological statements, woven with feminist vision of an ever-renewing creation of interconnection and mutuality. They are songs of affirmation and healing which sing through me and I hope will sing through you.
I am a singer-songwriter, Unitarian Universalist minister, amateur linguist, integral philosopher and shameless punster. I have published seven songbooks and three recordings of original music and meditations. I serve as a guide for spiritual transitions and emergence, a consultant to congregations, a music catalyst and an officiant at rites of passage. I am the mother of two grown sons (Colin, a jazz saxophonist in Oakland, CA, and Jacob, an actor in NYC). My partner, Cindy, and I live in North Carolina.
