Details:
A fellow worshiper once made this very powerful statement; “When I worship, I would rather my heart be without words than my words be without heart.” This is the message behind the fresh new voice to the contemporary music scene, Mark Sorensen.

Mark’s story is that of Christ and music. He began his singing career at the age of 5 and has been singing ever since. Having been in the ministry for over 12 years, he has served as a youth pastor and contemporary worship leader writing music and leading people into the heart of worship. It was signing with the newly formed record company, “Echo Dei Records”, however, that gave his music wings and allowed him to get the music out around the country and world.

His first release, “Are We There, Yet? The Worship Journey” was released in 2003 and has enjoyed radio play in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas and has also caught the attention of fans around the country.

“I have always felt like this journey I am on is just that, a journey. When my wife and I travel, the question that we know will always rear it’s ugly head from our kids is, ‘are we there, yet’? The more I hear that question, the more I think about the number of times I have asked that very same thing of God. The journey we all make is a tough one. There are rough situations that we face but I relish in the promise from God’s Word that He is always here and never leaves those that He loves. This album is a reflection of those thoughts!”

Churches have embraced songs off of that album like, “Sanctify Me” and “Overflow” and have incorporated them as a part of their worship services around the country. It was “Rivers of Joy”, however, that garnered the attention of a local radio station in Shreveport, LA, and became a very popular requested hit. Other songs like, “Free” and “Fly” have also caught the attention of listeners for their lyrics and modern contemporary feel.
“I really didn’t set out to make any certain “type” of album. The beautiful thing about this project was that I was just writing and putting to music the words that God had been laying on my heart. I am so extremely proud of this project and the heart that is behind it!”

Lending background vocals was fellow worship leader Rita Baloche, wife of contemporary worship leader and songwriter Paul Baloche.

“Rita being on this project was just an added blessing. Her voice and passion that she brought to the music was so honest and real. One of my favorite songs on this album was a song I wrote called, “Heal Me, Lord”. “Rita immediately connected to this song when she heard it and really took some vocal direction on that song that, when I heard it for the first time, I absolutely loved. Again, it was just God at work in powerful ways.”

It is Mark’s sophomore released project, however, that is garnering the most excitement! In May of 2008, Mark’s second CD, “Hallelujah, Anyway” will be released nationwide!

This latest project combines rock infused worship, along with corporate worship ballads with lyrics that connect with today’s congregations.

“There were so many songs that I had wanted to get onto the first album project but at that time, just weren’t ready. This album contained music that I had literally been working on and singing with my church congregation for the better part of three years!”

Driving worship songs like, “Declaration”, “Cracked and Dry” and “Rain Down”, combined with congregational worship songs like “Provide”, “Meet Me in the Silence” and “Take This Joy” make this an album with diversity and music that gives every type of listener something to look forward to.
Mark was also given the opportunity to work and record with the nationally known Grambling State Choir under the direction of Marcus Rhodes!

“On the first album I recorded “Rivers of Joy”. I loved that song but it just felt like it was missing something and I had always said that when I found the missing ingredient, I would be re-record that song! Well I found it and it came in the form of the Grambling State Choir. I had heard them sing prior to asking them to be a part of “Rivers of Joy” and, very much on a whim, I called their director, Marcus Rhodes and explained the situation. Marcus was extremely open to them being on this recording and getting the opportunity to sing with them was a joy that goes beyond understanding!”

Mark’s musical influences vary from fellow worship leaders Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, Matt Redman and Charlie Hall, to others musical artists like U2, Coldplay and Counting Crows.

Mark currently lives in Shreveport, LA, with his wife and 2 children, has co authored a book titled, When Will Jesus Be Enough? Reclaiming the Power of Worship and leads worship each Sunday with his congregational family at First United Methodist Church.
