Details:
Trains and heartache have been common themes in country music for years, but for singer-songwriter Jon Miller, these two common subjects ring all too true in describing the lowest point of his life. On a cold December night in 1997, Miller was headed home after a frustrating week that had him heartbroken, but before he could make the last turn on his way home, he found himself stopped at a railroad crossing. As the train rolled past, he waited and his mind began to churn. He wondered why he should not just simply let off the brake and end his life. Completely downtrodden and ready to give up, he realized how far he had let his emotions run out of control. Miller says, "Something cracked inside of me. I was so overcome with feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, but deep inside of me I understood that God did have a purpose for my life." He put the car in park and cried at this very literal crossroad while the train continued down the tracks. After some time spent soul searching and receiving encouragement from friends and family, the aspiring musician would overcome his depression and use this experience to begin revolutionizing the way the world sees country music. Miller calls his newfound brand of twang "Positive Country," a trademark genre that he has been reeling for almost a decade, but has recently been put into production with his Nashville-recorded CD MORE.

The musical journey of Jon Miller began in 1995 when the hopeful songster started performing at local venues such as the Mobile Country Music Association, the Gulf Coast Opry and the Dixie Jam. It was at these places that Miller created his sound and learned to work a crowd in the likenesses of his influences, Garth Brooks, John Anderson, Charlie Daniels, and Aaron Tippin. The hard work seemed to pay off because in 1996 Miller began to be recognized for his blossoming talent with the written and sung word. Miller has won prizes such as the Horizon Award by the MCMA in both 1996 and 1997 and the Local Winner in the Jimmy Dean True Value Country Showdown in 1997. Miller also prides himself with adding the coveted Crowd Pleaser Award at Satsuma High School''s annual talent show in 1996, 1997, and 1998 to his steadily growing résumé. In addition to these honors, Miller accepted a music scholarship to Faulkner State Community College and became a part of the Sun Chief Sound. After completing his Associates Degree at the school, he then proceeded to the University of South Alabama, where he graduated with a degree in Marketing in the summer of 2002. While attending USA, Jon began producing and hosting, "Country Twang" a country music video show that won the award for Best Jag-TV Show at the University for 2001 and has featured such guests as Rascal Flatts, Darryl Worley, Trick Pony, and Marty Raybon. Jon''s latest awards also include second place at the 2002 Hank Williams Songwriting Contest for his song "No Boundaries."

These days, Jon Miller is best known throughout the Mobile area for his exciting live shows, imaginative songs, and infectious music video show. He has been the opening act for such artists as Trace Adkins, Charlie Daniels, and Josh Turner in venues that range from BayFest to the Greater Gulf State Fair. The project that has consumed most of this up-and-coming performer''s time, however, is his latest CD project, MORE. When it came time for Jon to start recording his first Nashville-produced CD in December 2004, he took his optimistic outlook on life to the studio and made a record which he labels as "positive country." He says, "The goal really was to record a CD that reflects my new attitude on life and avoid a lot of the stereotypes people associate with country music. There''s no cryin''-in-your-beer songs here, just fun positive country music." So with ten of his best original songs ranging from humorous novelty to touching ballads, Miller entered the studios with Nashville producer Larry Marrs and recorded his latest and signature album. The album also includes a free DVD featuring music videos of two of the songs on the CD, directed by Mark Moorer. After the May 2005 release of the CD, Jon returned to the Hank Williams Songwriting Contest to pick up prizes for both first place in the Hank category for "Legends of Yesterday," and third place in the country category for "It''s Not Me It''s You," both of which are featured on MORE. Also, to add to an extraordinary year, in October Jon performed to a national audience on the syndicated morning program, the "Daily Buzz," which airs on 140 different networks across the United States.

Jon Miller''s objective has always been to give his audience something different and not just come from an existing country music singer mold, but to obliterate it. Of the CD, local radio personality Shelby Mitchell says, "On MORE, Jon does a fantastic job of making ya feel good with every song. That''s rare in country music where most artists love to cry in their beer. His writing is outstanding. The songs are comfortable, like your favorite pair of blue jeans. It''s got me tapping my feet and singing along. We''re always looking for something fresh in country and Jon''s music is fresh as buttermilk." Keeping with his optimistic attitude, the songs on MORE put forth a "carpe diem" message that is both universal and introspective. The CD has become the perfect embodiment of Jon''s style of music-"depression-free twang." He says that his goal for MORE was to show the world a singer full of positive messages and tear down the many misconceptions of the music he lives and loves.
