"Laughter in Heaven"
As Jt was finishing mixing the last song for my CD, he looked over at me and said, " This has really been a labor of love." Some of the songs on the CD were recorded by Jt and me over 30 years ago. Yet, as I began thinking about the songs on the CD, I realized that it is indeed a labor of love because most of my songs are about love... of family, friends and the environment.
"Laughter in Heaven" is dedicated to my very good friend, Kent Stutler, who died in September 2003. I know that heaven has not been the same since he arrived.
"Tell Me Again" was written to my wife, Cathy. The great news is that we are still
saying those words to each other after all these years.
After watching a TV show years ago about what men were doing to change the course of the Colorado River, I wrote " Where Did The Colorado Go?" I feel the song still applies today. As the song says,"I don''t know who''s to blame, I think you and me."
"Rebecca''s Song and "Rachel''s Song" were written for my two lovely daughters. A couple of songs are a small price to pay for two wonderful young ladies that have brightened my life.
"The Sea We Would Like to See" was written in Okinawa, Japan while I was teaching school for the DOD. The inspiration for the song came after attending the World Expo that took place https://www.tradebit.com song title came from the main theme of the Expo. Unfortunately, I think the song is just as relevant today as it was then.
When my father died I really didn''t know what to say. Somehow I sat down and wrote a song. The result was " How Do You Say Goodbye?"
While teaching school for the DOD in Germany in the 70''s, I noticed a serious lack of sun for long periods of time. I wrote "When Will The Sun Come?" since I had been living in Florida since 1964, and had definitely gotten used to seeing sunny skies most of the time.
The last song on the CD is the "Irish Blessing." I wrote the music for it while attending the McCoy Family reunion in Memphis, Tennessee in 2001. It was quite exciting to perform the song for my extended family, since I had gotten my very first guitar from my Grandpa McCoy in the 1950''s.
I cannot end without thanking all my family and friends that have supported my music career all these years. My musical odyssey began with my first band, "The Avengers" in high school. Then came "The Wayfarers", a folk-rock band in the early 70''s. In the mid-70''s, I was writing songs and recording them with my long-time friend, Jt. We even did long distance recording of a few of these CD songs by sending tapes back and forth between Okinawa and Florida. I am so thankful to Jt for helping me complete this CD by doing some of the musical parts - drums, keyboards, some of the bass parts - and producing it. He went way above and beyond. I could not have done it without him.
Lastly was the "Michaels & McCoy" duo that began in 1981 and continued for over 20 years with singer / songwriter, Jesse Michaels. This duo also formed "Coyote", a Crossroots Country band that had a lot of success in the 90''s. I have learned so much from Jesse Michaels about music and life in our years together. I will always treasure his friendship. I am a better person because of Jesse Michaels.
Thanks for listening- Joe
