MP3 John Garr - Gimme A Break

Now here''s some rockin pop

9 MP3 Songs
POP: Party Pop, EASY LISTENING: Soft Rock

Details:
I started playing the piano at age five and then in the third grade, picked up the saxophone which I played all through school and for the rest of my life. At fourteen, I borrowed the neighbor''s guitar, and suddenly fell in love

with the idea of being in a group, THE ROGUES, which I started and played with through high school.

After graduation, along with a few friends, I decided to get serious and formed a group called the KINDRED SPIRIT, which released two singles on the Intrepid Label (Mercury subsidiary) and had limited success in Pennsylvania. The second single I co-wrote, "Peaceful Man", had some air play in Ohio, Florida, and Texas.

I decided it was time to go on the road with a top forty group, which landed me in Washington, D.C., where I worked for about a year, in and out of top forty and soul clubs with different acts, and finally at the world-famous Crossroads Club in Bethesda, Maryland, where I opened for guitar great, ROY BUCHANAN. We shared the same amp. That was cool!

I had played in Boston with two top forty groups and liked it a lot. In fact, when I visited there, I got a chance to catch a local group, TANGERINE ZOO. Little did I know I would someday work with some of its members. Getting to business, I answered an add with some guys at BERKLEE COLLEGE and we started the

WHOLE BAND. We worked Boston and New England exstensively, opening for PATTY LABELLE, MERRY CLAYTON, and the group STORIES. Next, feeling the need to learn, I enrolled at Berklee College and stayed for two semesters. This carried me into several other top forty groups and clubs where I met Adrian Medeiros through a mutual friend, Jack Connelly, a local agent.

Adrian and I became good friends and worked together in several groups, including the ADRIAN BAND and STRUTTER, where Steve Assad played bass and the three of us got our vocals together. I saw John Kalishes play at Bunrattys with his band, Susan, and had heard of Tommy Fey and Larry Dalton. Suddenly, RISER was created through a demo project of Adrian''s, and we were off. What a great experience.

We actually never broke up, but we were just so exhausted from the ups and downs of the business, we just drifted apart, although we had recorded this great album.

I decided it was time to move to Nashville, and I immediately went to work for EPIC artist JOE STAMPLEY, who was also in the British invasion with his group, THE UNIQUES and their hit, "NOT TOO LONG AGO", and "ALL THESE THINGS". Along with his duo partner, MO BANDY, we played the GRAND OLE OPRY, world famous GILLEYS, HEE HAW, and NASHVILLE NOW with RALPH EMERY. We toured the

country many time and worked many concerts for years.

The stint with Stampley came to an end in 1990. While in Nashville, I put my own group together, the "JOHN GARR BAND", and hosted the #l local TV SHOW on NBC, the "SATURDAY MORNING SHOW". I was nominated for an EMMY for writing the theme song, "JAMMIN", and worked with the likes of CHET ADKINS, KIX BROOKS, BOOTS RANDOLPH and too many others to mention at this time.

During this time, I had been doing a lot of writing and had started my own label, FULL HOUSE RECORDING. Twenty years had gone by since RISER had walked away. On one lonely night, I pulled out the tapes and was overwhelmed with the lush arrangements, the great background harmonies, Tommy Fey''s voice, and

the songs. I knew it had to be completed, so I contacted all of the members of Riser and told them of my intent to release the tapes. We agreed and RESURRECTION was born. See Riser on CD Baby as well.

I had alot of fun making that cd so I decided to release these songs on Gimme A Break, there''s some great Nashville guys on here as well I hope you dig it.
