Details:
We called it “The Long Way” because it''s a phrase from Tom''s song “Long Way We Met". But we also called it “The Long Way” because we sort of took the long way around making it. We started recording the CD in May 2005, and we finished it in May 2008. Along the way, Evan and Meredith left the band, Erik temporarily moved to Minneapolis, and Cameron absconded to Portland with the whole work in progress. (He brought it back.) After three years, we still like it!

So what''s it sound like? Here are some attempts:

• Three singer-songwriters wrapped in a rock band.
• Muscular contemporary folk-pop.
• Acoustic heart, electric soul.
• Secretly classic rock.
• Power folk.

We play acoustic and electric instruments. We sing a lot of harmonies. We''re proud of little details like the ukelele Tom played just once on the album. We played real drums and real guitars and an authentic Fender Rhodes and a Hammond B3. We arranged the songs in an order we think you''ll like listening to, as if you aren''t going to put all the tracks on your iPod and put them on shuffle play. We like Ry Cooder and the Rolling Stones, Steve Earle and Steely Dan. We have a song about "Casablanca". We''re a little old-fashioned. We rarely wear suits.

Tin Cat is:

Erik Ostrom: voice, accordion, mandolin, keyboards, guitar, bass
Tom Gewecke: voice, bass, guitar, ukulele, other keyboards
Dave Allender: voice, guitar, bass, more guitars

Additional credits on "The Long Way":

Evan Bautista: drums and percussion
Meredith Edgar: backing vocals and acoustic guitar
Cameron De Palma: sax attacks and finger snaps, background ooze on "Over Ilsa"

Produced by Cameron De Palma with Tin Cat
Mastered by Myles Boisen, super genius
