Details:
The story hasn''t changed...only the music!
John was raised in Kingston, NY... a small city about 2 hours north of New York City. His love for music started at an early age when he would dress up like Elvis Presley and put on little shows for his Mom and Dad. His Father died when he was 9 years old and a lot of his music rings of those feelings.
John started his formal musical education in the 3rd grade when he began playing the violin. He took up the drums in 4th grade and studied music all through college.....and continues learning today. While in High School, John started teaching himself guitar and piano while still playing drums in the school band (and NO he wasn''t a dork!....at least not a big dork....) Upon entering college for the study of music, John broadened his talents to include a wide range of musical instruments. Things seemed to be on track for John until the age of 21 when he was diagnosed with a deadly form of Cancer. The Doctors had given John a time frame of 5 years after the surgery as a gage for his survival rate. Certainly NOT what a 21 year old wants to hear! John''s life changed drastically over night. Going away to college didn''t seem so important given the fact that he did not know what kind of time he may have left on God''s green earth. John started writing music.... Learning how to write music. He saved quarters in a milk jug as his "studio fund." When the jug was full, he took the money and his courage to Salem Recording Studios in Port Ewen, NY. Eddie Flick (Owner / Engineer) took John under his wing for 2 or 3 years. Teaching John, the ins and outs of songwriting, playing and arranging and recording....while still allowing John to develop his own style. After John was considered cured of Cancer, he began slowly piecing together his own studio. To this day, JLS Sound (Named for his Father''s initials) is where everything is laid down. John writes his material then lays all the instruments down and all the vocals. He also uses his good friend Robert Bard''s studio, Skytop Sound in New Paltz, NY, for mixing and mastering.

John''s 1st CD, "From Discontent", was recorded and mixed by John at JLS Sound and from there, he went to Nevessa Productions in Woodstock, New York to master it with Chris Andersen. John shot, directed, and edited three music videos from the album. In 1990, 1992 and 1996, he was a semi-finalist Billboard and Musician Magazine''s songwriting competition. He''s also scored the soundtracks for several indie film and video projects and recently completed a commercial for which he was the Assistant Director, Director of Photography and scored, recorded and performed the music. The commercial airs annually on WCBS and CNBC and won two international awards. John had scored several soundtracks for independent films and TV/Radio commercials. John composed the musical soundtrack for a film by Director Yat-Hong Chow called "China." The film was awarded "Best Fiction Film" and "Best Original Soundtrack" at the 1997 City Visions Film Festival in New York City. John is been involved in all aspects of production for video and audio-- production, post production, etc. John also taught media production at The State University of New York at New Paltz.

John''s latest effort, "Blood In The Wood", is John''s best work to date. "It has a musical cohesiveness that I feel "From Discontent" lacked. It is a far deeper record emotionally than Discontent. Everyone who listens feels the pain and anger exuding from the tunes....that tells me that I''ve done my job...I''ve come across to people", says John. Blood In The Wood has already garnered interest from European record companies and radio stations in the US and overseas. It''s now making rounds in US and European record companies and US publishing companies.
John Schrader has been making his mark in clubs from Woodstock, NY to NYC, New Jersey, Connecticut, Boston and points in between. He has kept great musical company lately...playing with members of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Johnny Winter, Peter Gabriel, Rod Stewart, Sting, The David Letterman Band, Billy Joel, Shania Twain, Matchbox 20, Indigo Girls, Macio Parker, Al Green, Southside Johnny and Leslie West, Van Morrison''s Band, Muddy Waters Band, Bo Diddley, Blood Sweat and Tears, Rare Earth, Little Sammy Davis (Imus in the Morning), and Miles Evans (Son of Gil Evans) to name a few. Keep an eye out for John on the road and for his new CD, "Welcome To The Fallout."
