The Fiddlesticks first CD will set your toes tapping with old time and gospel music. The Kalebaugh and Simpson families pool 6 fiddles, mandolins, guitars, keyboard, standup bass and washtub bass to bring smiles and lots of fun to those who attend their performances. Inspired by the Booher family, the Kalebaugh kids began lessons in January 2000. The kids were having so much fun that mom & dad soon joined in. December 2001 found the Kalebaugh family moving onto the Cross Anchor S Ranch west of Terrebonne, Oregon, owned by the Simpson family. They quickly discovered a mutual love for old time music and it wasn’t long before the Simpson’s picked up fiddles, guitars and a washtub bass to join in. The Fiddlesticks started performing for family and friends in 2002. Their first “public” performance was at a polka party hosted by the Simpson’s grandparents in 2002. The kids played music the older folks heartily enjoyed and could dance to. Granted, the repertoire was fairly small and oft repeated, but nobody seemed to mind. Since then, the band has played at numerous venues, learned many more songs, and brushed up on their stage presence.
In between homeschooling and work on the ranch for the Simpson family (raising elk, cattle, horses and hay). They play their music as often as possible. Homeschooling leaves time in the day for spontaneous practice and jam sessions. Nobody forces these kids to practice; if the fiddles are out of the case they’ll be played.
