Details:
When Jones finally got the opportunity to go back into the studio he decided, despite a very limited budget, to do it differently. He put all the new material he was working on before aside - the songs on Angels on the Road are old, going back in some cases to the mid-1970s. "They are songs that I like and they''re songs that haven''t really gotten much play in the real world," says Jones. "I''d play them out once in a while but I''d lose track of them. This was an attempt to go look for anything back there that had gotten short shrift, give it a chance to see if it wanted to come out in the world and show its face. In a couple of cases, particularly the two really long songs on the album, there was a desire to see if they still lived or whether they were just an interesting artifact from my youth."

"What I (decided to) do was walk into the studio for three days with some musicians I enjoyed playing with and we''d just record live. I went through my mind about songs I hadn''t played much lately, and that felt good, and I put them all in a big pile and took them into the studio. It turned out great because...I, literally, had 30 songs to look at and I''d just pick one out of the pile and say, "Hey, let''s try this one."

The musicians present are: Mike Fischman, mandolin, classical and electric guitars; Vinnie Pasternak, fiddle, eggs and scat-singing; Steve Tavares, drums and percussion; Kurt Meyer, bowed and fretless electric bass and Lloyd Salisbury, lead guitar. Salisbury (whose solo on the song Body and Soul is one of the album''s highlights) also engineered and mixed the album.

"If you never buy another indie album this year, this would be the one to get. "Angels on the Road" is a CD for those musical and lyrical purists in the world. It''s an understated piece of brilliance... by one of the best songwriters in the indie world."

to a project. This is a very good disc that will provide the listener with many hours of pleasure."
