First and foremost a man of God, Big J''s music reflects his personal journey with the Creator. The voyage that Big J has taken is represented in his rhymes - he fuses life experiences, views on the state of organized religion, politics, youth, and love in a format that both the young and old can relate to.
Big J''s path didn''t always include music. After being a full time Minister/Evangelist for ten years, he left the religious organization that he had previously dedicated his life to. Rocked by church scandals involving sex, money, and politics, Big J, confused and misguided, spent the next 3 years questioning God about His kingdom.
Big J''s hurtful encounters with the church proved to be more than just a rite of passage. After God gave Big J the answers he was seeking, he began to express his conversations with God through rap lyrics. Getting positive feedback from family and friends, his calling became clear - teach people the spiritual truths of Yahweh through music.
With his debut CD Project "Speak to Me Lord" under his belt, Big J ministers to listeners through consistent compositions that pass on his knowledge of truly being an over comer. "Come to Church" mixes the reflective and hypnotic melodies of Gina Bowman and Shante Walker with the aggressive rhyming style of Big J. Another standout track on the project is "Seeka''s of The Way" - where Big J spits about staying on the path of righteousness over gritty sampled melodies and guitar riffs.
Recognizing that the easiest way to unite the Body is through music, Big J''s mission is to encourage all believers to stand together as one so that the world will know who Christ is. Not wanting to limit his teaching of God''s word, Big J also created The J. Bowman Spiritual Learning Ministries, which is dedicated to teaching people how to have a relationship with God outside of organized religion and rituals.
Currently, Big J can be seen ministering at venues throughout Southern California, promoting his full length CD project, and telling others how his journey to hip hop was his journey to God.
