Casual Sweater Tuesday is a funk rock jam band with a funky, groovy, diverse sound that is sure to leave you impressed. Hailing from the suburban Long Island town known as Massapequa, this band is comprised of three young men who each bring different influences to the table.
Their debut album "Circus Berzerkus!" showcases these influences which range from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Phish to Primus, Rage Against the Machine, and Jimi Hendrix.
Songs like "Path", "Physics Notes", "insulinXcore", and the fan-favorite "White" are fun, funky grooves with slap-bass lines, bouncing funk rhythms, and rocking guitar riffs and solos, all reminiscent of RHCP themselves.
Others like "Get Down with the Groove" and "What?" show the bands harder-rock side as brought to the table by guitarist Justin Lieberman. "What?" combines metal guitar riffs with horns; an odd but awesome combination. "Groove" goes off into a deep jam and metal breakdown based largely on a completely improvisational jam from a show in their past, including a brief bass solo from bassist Gus Kalin, who''s most prominent influences are Les Claypool and Stanley Clarke. The illegitimate child of Mr. Claypool himself may be found in Kalin''s "Uncle Remus" a fun break from the musical norm of the album. The whacky bassline mixed with cacaphonistic guitar and vocals make up the song.
If you haven''t heard "Circus Berzerkus!" yet, make time for it during your next lunchbreak. It is a collision of various styles and genres which balances serious songwriting with silly and quirky songs and add-ins.
