Details:
Songs by Cherie Bell capture listeners with poetic lyrics, beautiful melodies, and honest message -- mostly attesting to life after love. But it’s her soulful voice, a flowing vibration, that soothes love’s weary traveler like a healing stream poured over the heart.
Cherie is a folk rock singer/songwriter from Dallas, Texas, who has been living low-key in the music business for 20 years: writing, singing and recording her own songs.
“I don’t write songs every day,” she said. “But when I do, it’s going to be a good one.”
She is a songwriter in tune with -- and willing to wait for -- her muse. “I love the art of a song,” Cherie said.
The spirit of her music -- described as Texas Rock -- reflects an independent streak marked by many residents of her native land. With her sultry Southern vocals, Cherie can sing a song easily placed on country radio while her penchant for jazz styling marks another song as adult contemporary. This recording artist is not easily categorized in today’s splintered music market.
A child of the ’70s, Cherie learned from the records of a trio of female songwriters: Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon.
“I listened to their albums over and over, spending a lot of time analyzing their styles, word choice and rhyme, melody, and how their songs were constructed, how they chose to present a certain message,” Cherie said.
But Cherie’s expansive songwriting style also was influenced by her mother’s eclectic stack of albums, including original records by uncles and cousins played right along with Ray Charles, the Beatles, the Eagles and other denim rock of the era.
“A song has to say something, one major message to get out there,” Cherie said. “How it’s dressed up depends on the writer’s mood or interpretation.”
Cherie sings the gamut of American Popular Music, from jazz to pop to rock and blues.
The integrity of her songwriting, however, is best represented by the folk genre.
“I grew up listening to songs on the radio, each one delivering a lesson about love and life,” Cherie said. “I can’t think of a more intimate way to bear your soul to others.”
