Details:
Kelly Ann Monahan, with a voice and style all her own, is a four leaf clover that will light up any room. With the ability to make anyone in the room feel instantly comfortable, her low-key and jovial disposition draws people naturally. And when this young lady takes the stage, she simply sparkles.
Born and raised in Havertown, Pennsylvania, one of Kelly''s first musical inspirations was seeing a Broadway performance of Annie. "I can do that!" Kelly announced in the theater to her parents. Shortly thereafter, at the age of eight, she began to play the piano. Vocal lessons came next, followed by theatrical training. During high school she performed at church weddings, in theater, and in the Pennsylvania 1993 All-State Chorus. She had written songs since she was eleven, but it was her mother''s sudden death when Kelly was seventeen that really fostered her writing.
Kelly graduated magna cum laude from Cabrini College in suburban Philadelphia in May of 1999 with a degree in English and Communication. During her college years, she interned at Philadelphia''s Country station 92.5 WXTU, and hosted a specialty radio show at her college targeting original Philadelphia-based bands and artists.
Performing, without a doubt, is her passion. She opened for Vince Gill and Shania Twain at the First Union Center in Philadelphia while in college, as well as performed at high-profile venues such as Philadelphia''s Tin Angel. She also wrote and performed the ballad "Sleep My Child" during that time, which was promoted two years in a row on country radio to benefit St. Jude Children''s Research Hospital.
Having gotten her start on commercial radio as a traffic anchor in Philadelphia, she made the leap to Nashville for music and started waitressing at a local writers night, eventually reporting traffic for radio and television here. She won "Best Traffic Reporter" at the 2003 Nashville Achievement In Radio Awards. Next she was the morning show''s news girl on Nashville''s Hot AC station Star 97, from which she was nominated for an AIR Award for "Best News Reporter" in Nashville in 2004. You can now hear Kelly as one of the new air personalities on Oldies 97.
Kelly is always playing out at one of the various writers'' spots in town including Borders Books and Music. She has also become a regular performer at the Nashville International Airport, Starbucks and various charitable organizations. Your voice for the Nashville 2004 Folk Festival on Fox Television, she most recently received the title "Suggested Artist" from the 2004 VH1 Song of the Year contest.
"I have always known that I want to help people through music somehow. Ever since I was little."
Driven by spirit, Kelly unquestionably has the drive and discipline required to work her way to the top. And it''s her singing...that will really make her fly.
This solitary voice captivates you, and the genuine person just makes you curious to know more. And you will be hearing more, so remember the sparkle in that Irish name. You''ll be hearing it quite often in the near future.
