Awakened Faith, the album was conceived about 3 years ago. I started writing the lyrics after being saved. I wanted to put into music all the feelings I had about accepting Jesus Christ as my personal savior. And the feelings I had before I was saved.
The album essentially chronicles my journey from unbelief to redemption and all the feelings I had associated with the two. This is why I called it a musical journey.
The venture is the coalition between my brother in law Carson and myself. In fact, it was he who came up with the name Awakened Faith, and is the music man of whom I speak. He is the musical genius behind all the music on the album. Something I call nothing short of incredible.
Music has been a big part of my life for a long time. I have been singing since I was a young boy. I like simple music with lyrics you can understand and that’s why I insisted that all but one of the songs be played on an acoustic guitar. I play some of the drum tracks on some of the songs and a little keyboard on one of them but a majority of the music is played by my music man Carson. Although I do all the singing and harmonies.
About 3 years ago I approached Carson with the idea of recording this CD and he was delighted. Thus beginning our musical journey.
He owns Final Cut Studios which he runs out of his basement.
Over the next 3 years one by one the songs started coming together. Sometimes the songs came quickly and sometimes it took months to finish one song.
our goal was to have every song sound differently, and not just different from each other, we wanted songs that sounded different from any other songs we had heard thus far in our lives. I call it folk music because it is simple, has a message and is easy to understand. Although, I wanted it to sound professional enough to play publicly.
When we listened to the final draft we were happy. We played it for others and got positive feedback. I like to think because it was good music, but who knows?
I began work on this CD with the intent on just making it for me. Maybe for a few others to hear like family and friends but never thought it would get as much attention as it has. On behalf of Carson and myself I must say that the CD exceeded my expectations and total strangers seemed to like the way it sounded.
My ultimate hope is that whoever listens and/or purchases our CD finds the music and lyrics enjoyable and easy to understand. After all this was my goal in the first place.
I thank God for the opportunity, the talent and the music man for making this CD possible.
