Mo-Rece brings over thirteen years of professional production and sound recording experience with him every time he walks through the doors of RawTech Productions – a one stop shop for recording artists offering everything from audio recording, mixing and mastering and live sound engineering to cd/dvd printing and duplication, photography, video recording and more. And while by his own admission he’s the guy who “likes to be nameless to the public”, the reputation he is earning as a songwriter, producer, musician and sound engineer are quickly making him as recognizable a talent as the artists he works with.
Mo-Rece’s specialties in terms of his production work lean towards all deeply heartfelt and soulful music, especially neo-soul, R & B, hip hop, gospel, and house music. He has also carved out a unique niche for himself in the region’s spoken word community in that he is quickly becoming the go-to producer for poets looking for someone who can understand their vision and help them make the transition from live performance artists to recording artists. “I try to listen and feel what the artist wants the public to feel and hear from their recordings,” Carroll explains. “So instead of thinking engineer or musician, I think artistry first. I try to translate what they’re trying to get out artistically into the musician’s world and the engineer’s world. Then I do a scratch idea to see if I’m in the ballpark. If I am, I proceed. If I don’t, I go back to the drawing board. I’m usually in the ballpark at least 95% of the time.”
Mo-rece has worked with a variety of talents like spoken word duo The 5thL, soul crooner Kelly Bell, popular gospel artist Jonathan Nelson and house music vocalist Michelle Shellers. He also works with up and coming artists whose names are destined to become familiar to the public with Mo-rece’s help. The diversity in his musical experience is something he values because it “widens my understanding about how to produce, and it helps me highlight a project’s artistry….I understand how different styles are mixed, recorded and mastered.” Mo-rece’s work as a musician, producer, promoter and/or sound engineer has taken him to nearly every venue of note in the Maryland/D.C. area including The Walters Art Gallery, The Baltimore Museum of Art, Center Stage, Sonar, The Creative Alliance, The Baltimore Convention Center, The Pikesville Armory and The D.C. Convention Center. He is a highly sought after musician who has played keyboards in numerous area churches like Empowerment Temple, and has performed at New York City’s famous nightclub S.O.B.’S. Mo-rece also heads up Stinkiface Music, which has been in existence since 1996. The name describes “that face that people make when they hear a song that they love on the radio or in the club, maybe even something they haven’t heard in a long time. It also describes the face that musicians give other musicians when they’re making good music,” Carroll explains. “The goal is making music that consistently makes you make that face, no matter what the genre.”
