Dear music lovers, vision seekers, and explorers of altered states.
Greetings. I''m Stephen Keary, composer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and life-long seeker and practitioner of wisdom traditions from Buddhist meditation to Shamanic trance journeying. "The Secret Gate" is my first (but not last!) CD of music in the ambient/new age/meditative/sacred chant/dreamy space music/symphonic electronic genres. Obviously you''ll have to hear the music for yourself, which you can easily do by listening to the musical examples offered here. This music is the culmination of many years as a musician and spiritual explorer. Influences and inspirations, as you might imagine, are plentiful, and include, in these genres, Dead Can Dance, Tulku, Peter Gabriel (especially the CD "Passion"), Lisa Gerrard (Duality, The Mirror Pool), Briano Eno, Afro Celt Sound System, Jonathan Elias (The Prayer Circle), Loreena McKennit, the music of Hildegard Von Bingen, Sheila Chandra, and just about anything else with a true heart that''s passed my way.
My intention with "The Secret Gate" has been to create big and beautiful spaces or worlds that listeners can be carried away into if you choose to, or simply to have in your environment to beautify and uplift. Ranging from 5 to 7 minutes in length, the pieces are like miniature symphonies, evolving and developing. Some come full circle and some just keep on going with each new section. The total length of the CD is over 64 minutes.
The music has been created with many of the best keyboard sounds available and mixed by Craig Burner, one of Vancouver''s top engineers, at his studio Burning Sound. There are vocal chants and phrases, some pre-recorded (or sampled), and some recorded live. Some songs have gentle percussion sounds, both live and keyboard based.
If you do purchase "The Secret Gate" I hope that, at least on some of your listenings, you''ll have the opportunity to listen to it in the spirit it was created, in a quiet space with full attention (and hopefully on good stereo equipment!). Some of the numerous layers, weavings, and small beauties dancing on the peripheries may only reveal themselves in this way. En-joy!
