Sleek, engaging and often dark and psychedelic soundscapes. From gentler tunes to driven, spears of beats, Third Temple always finds the hook in the music, be it trance, IDM, big beat or something downtempo.
Raphael Cohen, the mind behind Third Temple, was reared listening to electronic music; it was a huge part of his life. “I was influenced by the New Wave bands of the 1980s like New Order and synthesizer bands like Kraftwerk, OMD, Yello, The Beastie Boys, Chemical Brothers and The Crystal Method in the 1990s.”
But though he has absorbed all this, what comes out of his mind is entirely his own. Thanks to the technological revolution that has swept the world in the last decade, making quality electronic music is a much more accessible process. In 1996, after computers had become widely available, that Cohen conceived of making his own music. In 2000, he quit thinking about it and started doing it, experimenting with software synthesizers and samplers.
Previous albums by Third Temple include “Mystical Techno 101” in 2003 and “Kabbalah” in 2005 and boasted Cohen’s more experimental side. In a move to reach out to film and television, his sound has since evolved to boast more mainstream accessibility, yet without sacrificing any of the distinctiveness that marks his music. Cohen has also begun composing “new age” style music, as well.
But whatever the style, Cohen says that his core artistic drive remains unaltered: “Third Temple is about a bright new future for mankind, a future free of wars and hatred.”
