My name is L. J. Henry. They call me “Geronimo.”
My grandfather knew the great Apache medicine man. They held him as a prisoner of war for a full quarter of his life you know.
In 1899 he was held at the “Jefferson barracks” near Mobile,that''s where Grandpa Henry met him, and that’s where I got the name…”Geronimo”
I have been playin’ and singin’ country music for 50 years. Over those years I have, however informally rubbed elbows with a myriad of the great, near great and ingrate, of the music and entertainment world.
I ran the best Guitar store in the world! Matt Umanov Guitars, down in the Greenwich Village.
It was there that I got the opportunity to meet the big shots.
From Sinatra to Johnny Cash to Paul Butterfield to…Jaco, jaco was a pal of mine, I could have saved him if I had been there, I know I could.
I served in Vietnam in the 60’s, I missed the entire era because of the war, lost a pal or two there.
My last job in the Navy was “Armed Forces Police” in Brooklyn . I arrested kids who joined the service, and then just decided they did not like it and just went home, the Navy frowns on that.
I also meet “Greta Garbo” there,,not in the Navy in nyc and she spoke to me. I meet Sinatra in our mutual bakery “Zito”
I wrote a couple of songs with the great Shel Silverstein he saved my life once, https://www.tradebit.comrt story, remind me and I’ll tell you someday.
I play my own songs almost exclusively these days although I do know the words to a lot of songs, other peoples, songs.
I am a member of the Ray Price Fan Club.
I taught knife and axe throwing and knife fighting for years at my place here in Houston.

They’ll remember, I almost cost her, her job by getting her back late to work after.

I have been in Texas now for 20 years by way of a year in a Mexican jail we had a great joint on the “Isla Mujeres” off the coast of Cancun. “Bad Bones Café” Ran a few loads of guns to the Zapatista rebels, that’s where I meet my wife, she was one of them.
I have been playing around, no! that’s not what I meant baby! Playing music around houston, that is.
Teaching guitar, And banjo in the Houston area and finally got enough cash to make this record, damn! I said record, I also remember 8 tracks, and even wire recorders.
The songs herein are all my own except a couple of traditional ones. My stories, are country stories. Murder, hate, love lost, prison, pain, mamma, demons, divorce, drinkin’ did I mention drinkin’? .patriotism, honor, loyalty,daddy and of course, drinkin’. Did I mention drinkin.? I forgot, I must have been… Johnny cash said “Mamma songs are always good in country music"
In short, these are my “SONGS OF GLORIFIED DISPAIR” And yes I know despair is misspelled, and that’s country too.
I am, and will remain, one hundred and seventy-five pounds of rompin’ stompin’ Guitar pickin’ hell.!
