"Evan Kolvoord is a consumate songwriter who has had more impact on my own approach to music than any other. He is a truthful and poetic songwriter who is easily accessible, yet staggeringly deep. He''s got it all; musicianship, voice, and writing. Evan kicks ass." -(Andrew Donalan, Austin TX)
Born and raised in Austin Texas Evan Kolvoord has been revered by many, even at a young age, for his inventive harp playing. His songwriting and guitar playing matured thanks to the opportunities presented in Austin to play with some of the finest musicians in the world. Now residing in Halifax Nova Scotia Evan continues to write songs. He has been fortunate to play alongside musicians like Al Tuck, The Hurtin Unit, Courtney Wing and is a full time member of The Fancy Lebanese Country Band and The Christina Martin Band and attempts to first subdue his listeners and then wham! bam! knock their socks off with some good ol'' fashioned get down mouth harp boogie woogie.
"It hasn''t been long since Atlantic Canadian songwriter Christina Martin married and was repatriated by the Austin, Texas native harmonica virtuoso, but Evan Kolvoord is rapidly making a name for himself in Halifax. His mastery of the mouth organ is undeniable, and his prasing and melodies deliver every atmosphere from soothing to haunting. The rich, symphonic tones of his acoustic guitar complete his warm sound. He spans the continental United States with his settings, and he shows a great deal of respect and compassion in his reflections of the humanity in his characters. All this, combined with the fact that he''s a genuine and likeable person, makes Evan Kolvoord one of the best solo folk sets you can see in Halifax on a regular basis, at least for now... -(Billy T. Mushkat esq., Halifax NS)
"Evan''s got the tone and he''s got the ears. He knows when and where to do what - and when it''s time to give-''er, Kolvoord does not hold back." - (Adam Fine, Halifax NS)
