MP3 Screwtape Lewis - Finding Ways to Selfdestruct

Finding Ways to selFDestruct is a major evolutionary step forward for electro-art rockers Screwtape Lewis. The new record is a glorious mash-up of The Clash''s militant marches and Duran Duran''s hooky electronica wrapped tightly in post 9-11 urgency.

Details:
Electronics sputter and guitars buzz as two drummers, one on a traditional kit, the other punishing an oil barrel, pound out militant dancefloor marches. Like some post apocalyptic Salvation Army band, the frontman shapeshifts between rock evangelist and art-rock method actor. Welcome to the latest incarnation of Edmonton-based electro-art-rockers, Screwtape Lewis.

With its name taken from the controversial novel, The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis, Screwtape Lewis is the musical exoskeleton of vocalist/ guitarist/ songwriter Randl Lewis Bailer. As a self described visual artist who uses "rock band" as his medium, Bailer has lead the band through each of its four albums using and abusing genres with Bowie-like restlessness.

Screwtape Lewis first gained popularity in 2001, with the release of their debut album, Art Rock Show. University audiences especially met the band with favourable reviews and continuous campus radio play. With the release of their first full length album two years later, the band not only began gaining notoriety for its high energy performances but also earned select mainstream and European radio support.

In 2004, Screwtape Lewis managed to attract the attention of platinum selling songwriter Jay Semko, of the Northern Pikes fame, to produce their next CD. Released the following year, The Opulent Hum, transformed the band from a local novelty act to national upstarts with the release of their single, Imperfect, to both mainstream Rock and campus radio across Canada. The band was also hand picked to provide five of their songs as well as making an appearance in the internationally released sci-fi film Decoys: Second Seduction. Back at home Screwtape Lewis was awarded SONIC FM’s Band of the Month honours following a score of solid reviews by the media.
“..smash hit in the waiting...like nothing else out there...” Edmonton Journal

Capitalizing on their positive momentum, the band spent 2007 recording their fourth album with Jay Semko returning to the production helm. Finding Ways to selFDestruct finds the band at the height of their creative energies. Fusing a sound that is reminiscent of the dark, dancible electronica of Depeche Mode but vandalized by shards of angry post 9-11 guitar, making for a sound that is strangely familiar yet urgently modern.
