Details:
Kraven is a 4 piece Limerick-based band formed in 2002. They claim there influences from the likes of radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, Muse as well as individual tastes for blues, funk and jazz which makes for a unique blend of raw guitar riffs, grooving drums and bass, and dreamy soundscapes and emotive vocals in their quieter moments.
Hot Press magazine claimed they were a breath of fresh air and a band that know how to get to the point with a song!

''Thank Christ for KRAVEN from Limerick whose new demo not only shows some solid advance from the last one, but they get to the point, have songs with choruses, sound as contemporary as tomorrow''s weather forecast and can play 4 songs in 16 minutes! Their influences range from Pink Floyd and Radiohead to The Frames, but they add their own flavour to the mix. ''Just A Walk Away'' comes complete with an impassioned vocal performance and in your-face guitars that leaves you wanting more. Which is what you get with ''Wasting Away?'' with the added benefit of decent harmonies and the ability to get to the point. ''What are you waiting for?'' is more laid back, but packs a punch where it hurts.'' - (Hot Press) review of ''Just A Walk Away'' demo

Kraven are Alex Blinov - drums, Tony Monahan - guitar, Pat O Byrne - bass/keyboard/vocals and Tom Ryan - lead vocals/guitar.
The band formed in late 2002 with Tom and Tony collaborating on songs and recording in a home studio. In fact both had previously been in numerous bands together but finally set about putting down on tape all the song ideas they had collected through years of jamming.
Lead singer Tom adds: ''We were a bit disillusioned with the music scene at home having played in various covers bands and throwing the odd original song into the set. Myself and Tony always loved to jam. Even in the restrictive confines of a cover set we tried to make songs our own.
We finally decided to do what we had always wanted to do - put together a band to concentrate solely on song writing and make sense out of all our ideas. We recruited Pat O Byrne who was a good friend of ours on bass. We always felt Pat was a kindred spirit having played with him at various gigs. He added a new dimension to our songs and also had song ideas of his own. Added to that his uncanny ability to play keyboard and bass at the same time we knew he was the guy!''
Kraven then recorded two EP''s ''Flyin'''' and ''Just A Walk Away'' using various drummers both in the studio and while on tour. Both these EP''s where well received by both audiences and the media alike.

''Kraven have this song writing malarkey down pat; their emotive pop/rock songs sure capture the attention of the audience.'' - ''The Months Most Outstanding Act'' - Total Guitar Magazine Review of ''Just A Walk Away''.

''Kraven write songs that stay in your head and just beg to be played again and again'' - Hot Press ''Flyin'''' Review

Even though both EP''s were well received Kraven still felt they needed to develop their songs further and to capture the energy of their live show. To this end the band jammed more around heavy guitar riffs while still retaining some of the key elements that had made up their earlier songs. The result is their debut album, ''This Kind Of Lonely''.
Tony adds: ''This album really captures what were about. We have loud guitar riffs, full on rockin'' vocals, effects ladened guitars and noises mixed with keyboards, acoustic guitars, classical guitar bits, reggae rhythms, grooving bass lines and melodic vocal harmonies.''
With the album completed Kraven set about rehearsing their live show to promote the album and needed a full-time drummer. After some unsuccessful attempts to land a long-term drummer to complete the band Kraven finally settled on Alex Blinov.

Tom: ''Alex is originally from Russia. He''s been living in Ireland for a couple of years. In fact he''s still learning English but I think the fact he''s from another country with a completely different background brings another dimension to the band. He added such a solid ground to our riffs and ideas through his experiences with other bands. He completed the jigsaw.''

Kraven have just released their debut album - ''This Kind Of Lonely''. The album was self-financed and was produced and recorded by the band.

''Kraven are a Limerick four-piece who specialise in adrenalin-fuelled rock n'' roll. Having served their stint playing covers to pub audiences, the band decided it was time to pour their efforts into original songwriting in 2002. They set about recording a series of EPs in their home studio before commencing work on what was to become This Kind Of Lonely in the latter half of 2003 in a conscious effort to better capture their well - seasoned live sound.
That''s a pretty tall order for any self - produced, self - engineered, unsigned band to fill. However despite the odds Kraven successfully rose to the challenge. Armed with a superb collection of expertly crafted numbers - see the riff - heavy epic ''Goin'' Round The Bend'', the Muse - ish ''Confusion No.4'', the searing ''This Kind Of Lonely'', the gloriously disjointed ''Skin'' or the piano laden lament ''See Through To Me'' - the band''s grade A musicianship and impressive songwriting skills ensure that This Kind Of Lonely is not easily dismissed.''
HOT PRESS MAGAZINE ALBUM REVIEW 2004

''Self mixed, self produced and self assured, Kraven'' s debut album is an extraordinary, quirky , energetic package. Irish rock is once again a force to be reckoned with......This rocks hard and deserves to sell. Kraven now need to get a support slot and ride the coat tails of a more established act to gain exposure and success. With the right promotion, contacts and a pinch of luck, we''ll be hearing a lot more about this lot.
