MP3 Soft Tags - Projectors - EP

This is smart, DIY music that sounds like it might have been a lost gem from Athens/London/Brisbane circa 1978 complete with with buzzing acoustic gtrs run through old tube amps, beatnik writing sensibilities, a jones for waltz time.

6 MP3 Songs in this album (26:21) !

Details:
Again, we returned from the secret warehouse hideout in industrial northwest Portland with a stack of TDK 90s for our 3rd EP. Tags had budgeted this recording at around 10 dollars and came in under budget by 3 dollars by the time we had put everything down on tape. We did it all ourselves with an 11 year old Yamaha MT50 and a bunch of random stuff from Radioshack and trade-up and a mac laptop that is sweat stained, sticky from beer.

Listening through what’s on the tape, there are, again, flaws and accidental things that we think sound pretty cool. On ‘Projectors’, you can hear a fire truck in the mix. In ‘They Live By Night’ you can hear someone knock over an empty sStradavius bottle. at one point while recording ‘Ghosts (Pt 2)’, Richard sweated on the four track tape and it made sound really warbley so we kept that too.

Soft Tags like these songs quite a bit. Most of these were songs written straight from transmissions from the rock satellite – that glorious thing that happens when you can shut off your normal everyday ‘did I pay that bill’ level of thought and just tune in and sing out and bash out a song you’ve never played before or consciously thought about in 7 minutes. We had one session for instance, back in November, where all these words came out in Latin. none of us speak latin and we had to have a pal of ours at university transcribe it for us.
