Details:
"The title is a good indication of the band''s onstage patter, but their music will take you back in time to the days of smoky peat fires, tales of murder, longing and good- byes."
--Sandi Davis, The Daily Oklahoman

"They wind through minor chord progressions like midnight carriages through mist and feature haunting refrains like the echoes of moor banshees."
--Josh McBee, The Norman (OK) Transcript

"If unique tunery borne from the coasts of Europe is your thing, look no further ... ten ethereal yet lively tracks sure to get your medieval juices flowing."
--Preston Jones, The Oklahoma Gazette

Since 1999, the Counterfeit Bards have brought their engaging mix of Celtic and Renaissance material to both "Faire" and "Mundane" audiences in central Oklahoma and beyond.

Current members of the band are Lee Agnew (vocals, guitar, tin whistle, percussion, and recorder); Anna Holloway (vocals, recorders, guitar, and bodhran); Lessa Keller-Kenton (vocals, recorder, fiddle, and percussion); Leah Kenton McGaha (vocals, recorders, tin whistle, and hammered dulcimer); and John McGaha (fiddle and hammered dulcimer.)

Recorded in 2004 -- before John joined the band or Lessa picked up the fiddle -- "Bard From This Hall" presents the Bards beginning to hit their stride, combining the sounds of hammered dulcimer, recorders, tin whistle, guitar, and percussion.

Material ranges from pub-sing favorites to less well-known pieces, such as the gruesome murder ballad "Jesuitmont" and Robert Burns'' "Corn Rigs." Guitarist Agnew combines his original lyrics with traditional tunes on "King Uther" and "Goddess Within."

"We respect our material, and the sources from which we learn it, but we’re not trying to be "authentic" – there’s no way we can be," Lee says. "We interpret and present the old songs and tunes as well as we can, in the hopes that people who live in the modern world can enjoy them as much as we do."

For traditional material performed for a modern audience, The Counterfeit Bards can be Counted on to Fit the occasion. Accept no substitute!
