Details:
Not quite country, not quite jazz, Texas native Ken Beasley somehow taps into both, as well as flamenco, Motown, blues, folk, and even disco and classical to create an adventurous sound all his own. Borrowing from his years as a flamenco guitarist, Beasley presents the rootsy compositions on a nylon-string guitar in unique finger-style rhythms. The forms blend seamlessly to produce a mood that smoothly balances cozy and familiar with exciting and fresh.

In 1994, around the midpoint of roughly seven years as a working flamenco guitarist, Ken Beasley relocated from his hometown of El Paso, TX to Austin, where he spent another five years soaking up the sounds of such great music makers as The Fabulous Thunderbirds and the Flatlanders. On a summer day in 1999, while crossing the Guadalupe River between Austin and San Antonio, Ken found himself on the receiving end of a full speed collision with an 18-wheeler that left him at the bottom of a ravine with plenty of broken bones. After a long and tedious recovery, and with a new outlook on his own existence, Ken made a big decision and moved once again, this time from Austin to New York.
Ken has used every bit of his experiences, time, and mileage to find his own voice in music, and create songs that show a left-of-center perspective on the familiar emotional stirrings that come from a life filled with colorful characters, near-death experiences, and of course, relationships gone bad - REALLY bad. These songs, cultivated over several years, have found a home on GREENHORN, a recording that spans bluegrass to bossa nova in a way that is affectionate and sincere.
In addition to his solo work, Ken has spent years as a supporting multi-instrumentalist for fellow songwriters, including respected NY songwriter Jack Hardy (founder of FAST FOLK magazine and the Greenwich Village Songwriter Exchange), playing bass and guitar for Hardy both on tour and in the studio. Always compelled to keep a hand or foot in at least one new musical venture, Ken performs as a member of the Fluxus-inspired performance collective FLUXCONCERT, and is also 1/3rd of the power-punk trio MISSY SPORT.
