Akwarian Sea Rebel is a self taught musician from the South Jersey coast. She has been playing electric and acoustic guitar for thirteen years and considers it to be her main instrument. The Sea Rebel has been singing and tinkering with keyboards and organs since childhood. She recently discovered the magic of percussion and "making beats", both organically and synthetically, which she presents in the debut album.
Akwarian Sea Rebel has been influenced by the worldly and rhythmic tunes of M.I.A and the experimental and dreamy sounds of Cocorosie. A few others who have had strong impacts are Jimi Hendrix, The Mars Volta, Fela Kuti, Cesaria Evora, Sigur Ros, Eryka Badu, David Bowie, Miriam Makeba, Rage Against the Machine, Sean Lennon, Radiohead, and so many more.
On the debut album, Akwarian Sea Rebel wrote all the music, played all the instruments, and sang. The over-all sound of the album can be best described as rebel music sailing into an era of apocalyptic steel drum island getaways, rain drops of hip-hop, echoes of hymns sung by blue whales and train whistles that carry through world wars, greed and gritty city living until returning to the home planet you knew before discovering this earth.
