HE’S MORE THAN A SINGER…..MORE THAN AN ARTIST.....MORE THAN JUST TALENTED AND MORE THAN GIFTED……

There are many who can sing and many who can perform, but there is none quite like Robert Terrell; a singer, songwriter and actor that can captivate you with a smile and mesmerize you with his smooth-polished vocals, leaving you to thirst for more.
He’s often compared to some of the most noted and gifted artist such as: Brian McKnight, Joe, and gospel great, Smokie Norful, but Robert is by far in a class all by himself. “Although it’s an honor to be compared to such great artist, I’ve never wanted to sound like anyone. When my record comes on, I want people to be able to say, that’s Robert Terrell.”
This singer, songwriter, musician and actor is definitely suited to take the R&B industry by storm with his high vocal range and amazing song-styling ability. It may seem that this young Artist came from no-where, but music has always been a part of his life since the very beginning.
A humble beginning, Robert began singing at the age of eight in his home church in Biloxi, MS. It was also in Biloxi where he took piano lessons and played percussion in the marching band, both in Junior High and High School. Barely out of his teens, Robert felt a need to explore his gift a little further and relocated to Austin, TX to embark upon a music career. Robert not only experienced intellectual maturity, but vocal and musical maturity as well. He began playing piano for several local churches, which led to him sharing his gift of song with many local groups and choirs, as well as, writing songs for special group and choir anniversary celebrations. He has become a highly sought after songwriter by locally and nationally acclaimed artists. The apex of his song writing career was when his song entitled, “A Just Reward” was chosen by Chairwoman of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Rodena Preston to be presented in the new music seminar showcase at the 1996 GMWA convention held in Los Angeles, CA.
In 1997, Robert’s acting debut was a lead role in the gospel play entitled, “Precious Lord”, a spirit-filled depiction of the life of Thomas A. Dorsey, the Father of Gospel music. This lead role opened the door for many other appearances in “The Battle Is Not Yours”, “God Allows U-turns”, as well as, presented the opportunity to write songs for other plays such as, “I’m Weak Lord” and “Do You Believe In Love”, by Dorothy Mays-Clark, in which a soundtrack was created. Terrell’s singing career highlights include: songwriter and vocalist of Structure, a five member contemporary gospel group; background vocalist for several artists and sharing the spotlight with such gospel artist as Kirk Franklin, Kim Burrell, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Commissioned, Chester D. T. Baldwin, Carnell Murrell, Earnest Pugh, the late Brenda Waters and many others.
In 2002, after many groups and guest appearances, Robert decided to take a different path and explore the world of R&B. In 2003, Robert participated in South Flava’s Talent Showcase where he won first place, winning 6 hours of studio time; which launched a 3 song demo. In that same year, Robert joined Platinum Dreams Management where his career began to take shape. He began performing all over the city appearing at such venues as Black Expo, Black Capital Soirée, and Zachary Scott Theater. Soon he was sought out by The Atlantics, a local cover-tune band in Austin to sing lead. What was supposed to be a temporary job; became a permanent fill-in. Away from the spotlight, Terrell devoted time to perform at the Austin Recovery Center for persons of alcohol and drug abuse. He also performed at Austin’s Relay for Life Cancer Awareness. “I lost my maternal grand-mother to this disease, so I felt the need to give of myself and support the cause to finding a cure…..I was honored to play a part.”
Just two years into his career, he was offered a full-time job as lead singer for a thriving local R&B band, but declined the offer because he felt a need to further his career and that’s when he relocated to Atlanta, GA in 2004. “I knew I had more to offer….I knew that my dreams were much bigger than to stay local.” It was in Atlanta where he was introduced to an Agent who took interest in him right away and found a local producer to begin work on a project. Although this connection was short lived, Robert did not give up, but continued to strive to make sure his gift was recognized. He soon landed gigs singing in weddings around the city, while shopping his demo. A strong believer that God places people in your life for a reason, Robert ran into a child-hood friend, record producer and CEO of a record label in 2005 and they would begin work on a project slated for a Fall 2006 release that is sure to place this best-kept-secret on top of the charts. “I know that there is a season for everyone and I feel that it’s my time to share what God has afforded me.”
