Biography

Morris LeGrande is a musician who is passionate about sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ through the vehicle of music. "With the condition of the world today being what it is, there is a definite need for a message of hope. We see destruction and madness everywhere and God has blessed me with a way to encourage and edify people through the music that He has given me. People have to know ... there is a way out". LeGrande''s musical journey began at the age of five when he started playing drums at church. Having an extraordinary ability to keep up with seasoned musicians, he became a fixture on the local church circuit. As time progressed so did LeGrande''s skill and versatility. Not only playing drums, but also learning to play keyboards, bass, and ultimately making guitar his primary instrument he had clearly made his choice to pursue music as a profession.

LeGrande has played with such musical legends Edwin Hawkins, Lenny Williams, The Gospel Hummingbirds and Smokin'' Joe Frasier. He has also performed with Kim Burrell, Jubilee Christian Center with Ron Kenoly, and Bay area favorite Derrick Hall & Company just to name a few. Besides being an anointed guitarist he also is a producer, songwriter, vocalist, and recording engineer. On his debut album project Fourth Watch, LeGrande wrote, performed, and produced this project virtually in its entirety. By doing this project in this manner, the end result was the birth of a sound that is now dubbed Smooth Gospel. "The songs on this album were all inspired by the experiences of my life, and I know that there are many others who have experienced similar if not the same issues, and the listener can connect with the music on a natural as well as spiritual level". Although Fourth Watch is LeGrande''s debut as a solo artist, he has been recording with other artists for the last twenty years, writing, producing, and performing gospel, jazz, and R&B. The album also got the attention of Christianity Today as he was selected as one of the "Ten More Independent Artists You Should Know". He has also placed highly in a number of songwriting contests including placing 14th in the nation for the song Bet You Wanna Dance, and most recently was a finalist in the KKSF Aids Relief Sampler sponsored by the Clear Channel Corporation, for the song Lakeshore Drive. Currently LeGrande is in the studio working on his sophomore project due to be released in the summer of 2005, as well as producing a number of projects also slated for release early next year.

LeGrande was called to the ministry in 1998 and has a burning desire to reach those yet to develop a relationship with God, through his music. He takes to heart the word of God that commands us to "go into the highways and the hedges and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled". "If we would put our denominational differences aside, and simply concentrate our efforts on leading the lost to Christ... after all that is what it''s all about." says LeGrande. "The style of my music is not something that would necessarily be incorporated into the Sunday morning service, but lyrically promotes self-examination. And when that happens, my mission will have been accomplished, to point the listener to the center of all things, and that is Jesus Christ".

Morris LeGrande is truly a multi-talented veteran performer on a mission for Christ. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, LeGrande is establishing himself to be a standout in the gospel music industry.
