MP3 Leigh Phillips - The Interrogation & Others

An exciting blend of dramatic orchestral underscore and haunting, intimate vocal writing; in a similar style to the works of Jerry Goldsmith, Philip Glass, and the ''urban thriller'' scores of James Horner.

Details:
Leigh Phillips is a talented musician who is in demand as both an orchestrator & composer. In his role as an orchestrator he has worked several high profile film composers such as X2''s John Ottman (for whom he reconstructed & orchestrated the score from Bryan Singer''s PUBLIC ACCESS) and Joe Harnell (collaborating on a special 20th Anniversary suite of music from the classic television mini-series ''V'').

As a composer, Leigh has been involved with numerous projects ranging from short animations to feature films & theatrical productions. He has a keen aural sensibility and is capable of producing a wide variety of work whether it be full orchestral music or subtle, ambient, electronica.

The music from ''The Interrogation'' represents something of a fusion of styles. Due to the complex nature of the storyline (and the fact that it was an urban thriller) the music not only needed to ''keep the action moving'' but also inform the audience that things were ''not all that they seemed''. The resulting score is therefore an intricate blend of interweaving orchestral minimalist textures, driving kit rhythm, and haunting vocalise (beautifully performed by young vocalist Natalya Romainw). The recording of the score was also a ''cloak & dagger'' affair, with the brass, percussion, pianos, and strings players never meeting as all the parts were recorded on separate days.

As the score to The Interrogation is very short (an informed decision by the director) excerpts from two other productions are included on the CD. Firstly, White Gold-Red Ocean; this was a disturbing documentary dealing with the effects of intensive fishing off the coast of Africa. The Opening Montage is a beautiful piece for 2 pianos and voice, very much in the style of Philip Glass. This is followed by excerpts from the epic theatre score The Jungle Book, which incorporates a huge percussion section, chorus, orchestra, and synthesisers.
