Details:
Where Rails Meet Sails is the latest project from local recording artist and recording studio owner Chad Hagedorn. Helmed under The Happy Vanishing banner, this concept album was given life at Chad''s studio, GreySlade Music. Assisted by the Tacoma Artists Initiative Program, Chad (programming, synthesizer, acoustic guitar, bass, vocals) has produced and engineered an album fusing folk, electronica, and rock, laced with dreamy brooding atmosphere and featuring themes of melancholy.

This album also features guest appearances from some of Tacoma’s finest art-rock talents, including Laura Arellano (vocals), John Walker of John Walker and the Hitchhikers (keyboards), Kizzume of The Mercury Rising (vocals), Kate Monthy of MLK Ballet (backing vocals), and Dave Miner of Free Jazz Tacoma (saxophone).

As an attempt to honor the city that has continually supported the arts, Chad incorporated natural and man-made sounds from the Tacoma area. Some of these sounds have been converted into samples and loops and may seem unidentifiable. In one instance, the sounds of weekday morning traffic heard from the shore of I-5 have been transformed into industrial percussion. In other cases, sample recordings have been used purely for atmosphere and are quite easy to place, like the mundane sounds of Tacoma’s water areas and rail systems.

The vision was to create a moody album fit for spinning on any given rainy day in Tacoma, in hopes that it acts as a catharsis on the many rainy days Tacoma has to offer. The entire album is free as a digital download at https://www.tradebit.com with an option to make a donation or purchase a hard copy. All proceeds from sales and donations will go to The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County.

This is the first of three planned projects under the art-rock Happy Vanishing banner. A space rock album is intended for release next year, with a minimalistic indie-rock album to follow shortly after. But fret not, classic rock fans. For those who are looking for more straightforward rock and roll, Chad is also a member of the local rock group known as Solar Grey. Visit https://www.tradebit.com to learn more!
