My Story (The Condensed Version)
I was born in Havana, Cuba and moved to the U.S. when I was very young. Coming from a musical family, my love for music was an integral part of my life since I could remember. But nothing prepared me for what I heard as a small child my first night in New York City, on WABC radio. It was Led Zeppelin''s "Whole Lotta Love" and I was floored! Until that moment, I had no idea music had such power and passion. Finally, in 1975 I picked up a guitar for the first time and I’ve been in love with the instrument ever since. Vocals and songwriting are a part of my family heritage and I was fortunate enough to be able to hold a tune and write a few songs.

I''ve been a fan, guitarist, composer, session player, performer, producer and recording engineer in some capacity most of my adult life. During my college years in Miami, I studied and majored in music theory and was fortunate enough to learn from the great Jazz instructor Vincent Bredice, the man who taught Joe Diorio. However, at the time, my passion was really towards classical guitar. Over the years, I''ve had the great honor of meeting and jamming with some great musicians, including Paul Goddard (Atlanta Rhythm Section), Mars Cowling (Pat Travers Band) and Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick).

For the last 20+ years, I''ve made my home in Atlanta. I originally came here to study recording engineering, but accidentally fell into an IT career that has been very kind to me. My son Michael is also a musician and studying music theory in college. Atlanta is where I also met and married my beautiful wife Valorie, who shares my life and inspires me to be a better man every day.

Music is my greatest passion and I am honored to share it with you. Thank you so very much for your support and for listening. None of this would be possible without you.
Very Best Wishes,
O.D. Rivero

My Influences
I have way too many influences to list them all. Suffice to say that my musical influences began with bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. Later on I discovered Pink Floyd, Rush and Van Halen. Imagine those groups as some of your first concerts! The eighties exposed me to a whole new generation of guitar greats like Mark Knopfler, Steve Morse, Ritchie Blackmore (I know I was late), Tony MacAlpine, and of course Stevie Ray Vaughan. Stevie opened my eyes to the beauty and fire of the blues. His recordings and influence opened many musical doors for me. I’m very honored when a few people mention that my playing reminds them of SRV. I always thank them and gently mention that I could never even approach that level of tone and musicianship.

My Tone
My main guitars are a 1997 Fender Eric Clapton model Stratocaster, a Les Paul Double Cut Plus 24-fret model and my recent acquisition, a beautiful Fender Telecaster equipped with a Bigsby tremolo made for Fender.

My primary amp is a Fender ’65 Deluxe Reverb re-issue equipped with Mullard NOS 6V6 and 12AX7 tubes. I''ve also owned a 50-watt Marshall combo. However thankfully, there''s no such thing as a quiet Marshall. And so I sold it rather than allow this wonderful amp not to be used to its full potential.

For tone shaping, I use Robert Keeley’s most excellent modded Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer and Compressor, along with a Mesa-Boogie V-Twin overdrive for digging in. If you play guitar and don’t know about Keely’s effects, stop reading right now and go to his web site!
For my acoustic tones, I use a Godin Multiac Grand Concert Nylon string and a Takamine G Series Acoustic. For versatility live, I use a Line6 Variax acoustic and a Line6 PODxt Live.

My Bass rig is a Fender (see a pattern here?) Active Jazz Bass running through a Bass PODxt. Geddy Lee was one of my primary influences on bass. So I always strive to do something interesting when I play bass on my recordings.

For keys and synths I rely on Alesis QS Series, Native Instruments B4II and a Roland GR-20 Guitar Synthesizer for the Godin Nylon string.
