All performances were recorded live at Bellissimo Dolce (BD), Pittsfield, MA during the Summer of 2007 on the following dates: 6-30, 7-28, 8-4, 8-11 or at the Heron Cove Concert Series (HC), Cheshire, MA on 7-4. Why produce a live recording when studio recordings can create "perfect" takes through extensive editing and over-dubbing? We wanted to capture the essence of the trio live in performance. Central to the music was the on–the–spot interplay of the musicians as we improvised. The trade-off, of course, was that we had to deal with background noise. You will hear birds singing, people talking or occasionally coughing, doors opening and closing, and the coffee machine hissing steam, along with other "real-life" sounds. Gary Miller- vibraphone Musical Bio.
Jazz vibraphonist Gary Miller, playing a combination of original compositions, jazz standards, and contemporary jazz, has created his musical niche in the region of western Massachusetts. He has built his style on a lifelong relationship with music of many genres from classical, rock, country, to Broadway shows, film, and “international” music, as well as his focus on jazz. Along the way he has made music on several instruments in addition to the vibes, including many years as a professional drummer in a variety of musical settings (The Evergreen Tea Room Electric Band, Wild Country Band, Jazmin, Big Six Jazz band, Berkshire Big Band, Back Bay Bones, et al) . Additionally, he has made music on brass instruments (Williams Brass Ensemble, et al), electric bass, guitar, and keyboard. On vibes, he has performed as a soloist and group member in a wide variety musical settings including solo vibes performances, jazz combos (Miller & Amuso, Miller, Amuso & Duff, Amuso, Miller, Banulis and Amuso, Gary Miller Trio, Miller-Marino, Doctor Jazz, et al), chamber ensembles, big bands ( Berkshire Big Band), and musical collaborations with dance ensembles (Olga Dunn, et al). A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he has performed in numerous clubs and concerts, for gallery openings, on radio and television, and recorded in studios in the course of a professional career that began in the mid-1960s. The latest CD release of his own compositions is Looking Out- Looking In. Miller, Amuso & Duff are releasing a trio CD this fall, Tripodity Tales. Gary Miller is also the Director of Music and the Chair of the Expressive Arts at Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield, MA.
Art Amuso-bass Musical Bio.
Art has played electric bass since the mid-60''s, performing during the golden age of Pittsfield Rock bands in such groups as Midnite Riders, Cranberry Complex and Cousin Barley. Art moved to Boston in 1970 and attended the Berklee College of Music. He played the Boston - Providence circuit in the Jerry Cecco Big Band and the Peter Pece Quintet. During the 70''s and 80''s, Art studied electric bass with Major Holley, Jr, Andy West, Bruce Gertz, and Jerry Jemmott. He studied double bass with Bill Curtis and Henry Portnoi. Since returning to Western Massachusetts/Southern Vermont, while raising a family, Art has played in a variety of musical contexts, including the George Morell Band, Danny Young/Marcia Lynn and Ghost Train, Mortal Men, the John Sauer Trio, The Hap Richards Band, The Beryl Title Band, Marc Del Greco''s band, and in duos with Robert O''Toole, and Phil Buller.
Emily Duff- sax Musical bio
Emily is a young and talented saxophonist who is currently a music major at Westfield State College. During her secondary school years, she graduated from Miss Hall’s School (2005) and performed in the Jazz Ensembles there, working and studying with Gary Miller, director. She successfully auditioned for the MMEA- Western District jazz band. She began playing professional gigs with Gary Miller, working with Gary on vibes and Art Amuso on bass. During the summer of 2007, this trio recorded a live CD of Gary Miller originals, Tripodity Tales. Emily has freelanced with other jazz groups in the Berkshires.
