Details:
Mckinley Black hails from the cranberry bogs of Middleboro, MA (USA). She is the seventh child of seven children. Her mother immigrated to the United States after the second world war from Madeira, Portugal and her father is French Canadian. Mckinley wrote her first song at the age of 9. She couldn’t play an instrument so all her songs were written acapella, until a border who rented a room in her mom’s house gave her first guitar.

Mckinley’s music digs deep into the heart, finds a truth and expresses it in such an honest manner that it brings chills to her audience. She writes powerful songs about weakness and finds simple ways to express hard things. She blends beautiful melodies with an amazing, gifted voice which can only truly be experienced at her live performances.

Mckinley created "Troubadour - Modern Minstrels" back in 2005. Troubadour is a Promotional Platform for singer/songwriters in the form of a competition. It is a nine-month process and can be followed at: https://www.tradebit.com

Here''s some history:

In the mid to late 80''s, Mckinley Black was singing on the streets of Cambridge, MA in Harvard Square alongside; Tracy Chapman, Ellis Paul, Martin Sexton, Adrienne and Jim Infantino. She was sharing stages with Melissa Ferrick, Vance Gilbert, Ani DiFranco, Catie Curtis, Jonatha and Jennifer (who then became The Story and then Johnatha Brookes went on to her own solo career), Eve Goodman and many, many more. Some of these folks have gone on to become America''s Singer/Songwriter icons.

Mckinley wrote a song in 1988 called "Six White Horse" which got quite a bit of attention . This song addressed the political environment at that time, attempting to raise awareness of the presidential election between George Bush, Sr. and Michael Dukakis. Melissa Ferrick connected Mckinley to her lawyer Mark Fischer who had mediated Tracy Chapman''s launch and was gaining attention from the Major Labels. After about 2.5 years of trying to get a deal with one of the majors, nothing manifested and she got on a plane to Europe to travel around with her mandolin for three months.

Europe would eventually become her home. In 1997, after the death of her mother and at the persistance of a good friend, Bea Schneider, Mckinley moved to Basel, Switzerland. Basel is a beautfiul city, but it wasn''t her city. Touring through Switzerland, Holland and a show in Berlin, produced the opportunity for Mckinley to have the choice of living in Amsterdam or Berlin. She choose Berlin and has been living there ever since.
