MP3 Lincoln Conspiracy - details are everything

"pure pop for now people"

12 MP3 Songs
POP: Power Pop, POP: Piano

Details:
The Boston Globe
From June 5, 2003, Go! Thursday
The only thing Lincoln Conspiracy needs to do to earn Go!''s devotion is to keep creating insanely catchy piano-based pop. After listening to their new album, ''''Details Are Everything,'''' all we can say is, ''''Watch your back, Ben Folds.'''' If you have any appreciation for the likes of the Wondermints, Brian Wilson, or the Cars, you''ll totally dig this power pop trio.

The Weekly Planet
From The July 30-August 5, 2003 Music Menu
This piano-driven trio first convened here in the Bay area, before common sense kicked in several years ago and they headed to Boston. The band has released three self-produced albums of accomplished pop that mix quirky indie and New Wave elements with traces of a classic sensibility. The latest "details are everything" is an extremely listenable slice of aural pleasure. The band has always garnered comparisons to Ben Folds Five, and that''s in there, but so is the influence of acts like Randy Newman, E.L.O., Warren Zevon, and The Cars. Good stuff. Stop by and check it out.

I decided to try a new experiment with a cluster of the discs clustering on my desk. I would give each disc one song with which to wow me. From this, I would base my decision on whether to proceed onward or not. I know it sounds harsh, but that''s life in the big city, folks...
...Lincoln Conspiracy: "Let''s Get Ready," from "Details Are Everything" -- Oooh! Starting with bold piano and Farfisa organ...I want to like this! A healthy dose of Ben Folds Five and Joe Jackson informs this addictive song, which also features a chorus of voice chiming, "Let''s get ready to go," "Row-Row-Row Your Boat"-style. Neat and, dare I say it, keen. (KEEP LISTENING)

A guy playing piano with a couple other guys fleshing out the sound with percussion and strings. Sounds a little too much like Ben Folds Five, but Lincoln Conspiracy mirrors only these rudimentary elements. from there, they take off into their own style, something fiercely impelled by cheeky sugary good naturedness and injected with warm fuzzies and feel-good intentions...with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Another way to put it: Lincoln Conspiracy is the happiest damn conspiray ever, for they have the do-do-do''s and tonal upswings firmly in place.
It''s rather refreshing to hear something happy- and well delivered in a pleasing, clean package to boot. With this sort of cheery sound it''d be hard to listen to Lincoln Conspiracy and not feel uplifted.
