JAZZ: Smooth Jazz, EASY LISTENING: Lounge

Details:
Pointe Claire resident Lise Lacroix
has more on her mind these days
than her job at Air Canada. The
West Island chanteuse has just
released her first CD, Lise Lacroix
and Friends, a collection of standards
with a soft jazzy feel that she
says is easy listening and warm.
To mark the occasion, she had a
launch party Sept. 28 at Bourbon
Street West in Pointe Claire.
"It was a great night," she said.
"There were lots of people, lots of
friends, the media, it turned out
very well."
Lacroix began singing with the
Becket Players in 1985, enjoyed herself,
but knew she had an ambition to
sing the songs she truly enjoyed. So
after 10 years, she went solo.
"When you use the word jazz, you
risk turning people off. I''ve done
songs like Fly Me to the Moon, My
Funny Valentine and I do what I
think is a very unique version of
Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
While Lacroix
has fashioned a
Christmas CD
already, that one
was mostly for
herself. This one,
she beamed, is
the first one for
public consumption.
"Officially,
we did make that
Christmas one,
but I''ve been
waiting for the
day when I could create my own CD
for a long time. Finally, the baby is
born. I''m very happy with it."
Aside from a personal nature, there
is a commercial angle to producing
and selling a CD. Lacroix obviously
hopes to make a buck or two, but she
has other plans for the money as
well. As an employee of Air Canada,
she has an affinity for the airline''s
Dreams Take Flight, in which disabled
kids are flown to Disney World
for a couple of days to help put a
smile on their face for a change.
"A portion of the proceeds will go
to Dreams Take Flights. There is
another flight coming up Nov. 2, and
I want to help with that."
Charitable in nature, Lacroix also
appears every now and again at the
West Island Palliative Care Residence
to sing to the patients there. "It
brightens their days and I love to do
it," she said.
