Bobbe Shore has performed up and down the east coast, and her home base in the DC metro area, sharing her passion and love of Jazz, Standards, Swing, and Blues with those who are familiar with the genre, and winning over new audiences with every performance.
One quality which sets Bobbe apart vocally, is the honest and pure emotional vulnerability she projects into her interpretation of the classic “torch song”. Yet, in an instant, she can belt out the gutsiest of Blues, turning a phrase that will (for the moment) take you with her, as she disappears into a blues infused, smokey patch of night.
These days, she’ll dance you down the familiar streets of “America‘s Songbook”, while introducing you to a few new paths, on their way to being well-worn, with her original tunes, proving that America’s Songbook is a constantly evolving “work-in-progress”.
Her band, called “First Call” features collaborations with the finest of DC’s jazz community including John Cocuzzi (piano), Steve Novosel and Steve Wolf (bass), Frank Russo (drums), and Bruce Swaim (sax) on this disc. Together, they incorporate their individual strengths (quality solos, innovative voicings, and a mutual respect)to provide a unique and memorable musical experience which is enjoyed by the jazz initiated, as well as the novice…and one which passes way too quickly, leaving the audience to wonder, “Where did the time go”?!!! Because before the listener has even realized it, “Bobbe Shore and First Call” has taken them on a journey, and has entertained
them...right through to “last call”!

IN THE BEGINNING:
Bobbe Shore had decided by the age of six that she would be an orchestral conductor when she grew up. She had been brought up in a house filled with the sounds of Mozart and Beethoven, as well as Broadway soundtracks, and the songs of Ella and Judy Garland, and the like. But she was sure that classical was her path. Oh well the best laid plans...
She began performing at a young age...her first solo (Little Bo Beep), was at the ripe age of five while in kindergarden. That thunderous applause (of the many proud parents, teachers, and other students) was a wondrous sound!
She actually penned her first song at the age of eleven when her friend taught her part of a tune that almost every piano student knows, called "The Spinning Song". But she only learned the first half of the tune, and it definitely needed an ending, so Bobbe wrote her own ending. And so it began!
After learning to play guitar, Bobbe would write most of her original material on six-string guitar for the next few
years, until she changed to twelve string, which altered her style a bit, as a result of the new sound this instrument produced. Bobbe also began to study voice and show an interest in musical theatre, being cast in the first of many theatrical productions she would enjoy. "The freedom of being a character on stage, allows you to act in such a way, move in such a way, and basically frees you up to do things in such a way, that you might not do, "as yourself" It in essence, the stage removed some of the barriers that interfered with my ability to really let go and perform...I grew as a performer so much through my involvement with musical theatre!"
Bobbe would pursue college studies in music education/voice. She musically wrote her way through those years, even earning her first paychecks as a performer, allowing her to purchase necessities and even holiday gifts for the first time as a student, with money she generated from musical endeavors! What a feeling of satisfaction!
Bobbe returned to musical theatre "Promises Promises"/Fran Kubelik and "Gigi"/Gigi as well as variety band work, and she toured with a production of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"/Columbia, but that tour interfered with her 9-5 job, which paid the bills, so that performance sadly, had to end.
She still spent time each day writing and honing her craft, but missed performing. "There is a terrible sadness that you feel when you aren''t performing. When you are a dancer or a musician or an actor, practicing your craft {for an audience} is like breathing in and out. Without it, you feel as if your heart is breaking, it can hurt so much. You actually feel like you can not get enough air, that you might suffocate if you don''t remedy the situation. And if it can''t be changed quickly, maybe due to an injury,or for any reason, you try to block it from your conscious mind, because again, it''s just too painful to think about it".
In hindsight, she finally realized just how much her music meant to her, and how much she missed performing. That was the catalyst for this project, and an entirely new direction and role as "bandleader" as well as vocalist...a challenge that has become the most musically and personally fulfilling for her, to date.
But each musician with whom Bobbe has crossed paths, and with whom she has shared the stage, every step that she has taken, from the solo gigs, to the theatrical productions, and the touring...each one has played its part in bringing Bobbe to where she is today..."I finally got out of my own way! I''m doing the music I love. It''s a lot of work, but it''s a labor of love which is also fun and so rewarding! Sometimes we think that we know what our destiny is, or which path we should take. I think rather, that we should just focus on what we think our goals are...but over time, those goals may change a bit as we change. If we just keep doing what we think we should, when we think we should, and stop fighting the tide, eventually, things will naturally fall into place for us".
