Jamie started his musical career at age 10, playing clarinet because a friend did, and he thought it might be fun to be in the band. With a reconditioned instrument and a couple of reeds, his father simply said, "go to it, killer."
Within two weeks, Jamie was playing in the local community orchestra, and within a couple of years, was able to join the International Youth Symphony (an orchestra composed of members in the Ontario-Michigan area, based in Detroit) where he eventually became the solo clarinetist.
But his real love is the saxophone. He picked it up in high school, and it came almost too naturally to him - so much so that he didn''t perhaps recognize his talent as anything particularly special. As a teenager, his friends called him David Sanborn when he didn''t even know who David Sanborn was. He has performed in a number of venues and groups over these many years: from community orchestras as a child (including an appearance before the former-prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau) to numerous live performances and a variety of studio projects as a session player with many various and diverse artists, including Jael, Brian Danter (the bass player in "Teaze") and Phil Bryant (the bass player in "707").
But after many years and many projects for others, it seemed time to venture into a new area, and he has decided to record some of his own compositions.
Jamie''s influences in his writing are many, and his compositions reflect a good number of them. Some of these compositions highlight his definite symphonic influences; others are somewhat upbeat and smooth-jazz. Some are more laid back, while a couple of them are definitely contemplative in feel, almost new-age. The arrangements are clean, at times thoughtful, and some are with strings and horns.
This is his first CD; it is hopefully just the first of many yet to come.
