This Heart Is Reserved currently consists of just me! I am a British singer-songwrite I write songs on acoustic guitar , piano and leyboards and i find that my songs vary depending on which instrument I use.
In my formative years I listened to and enjoyed a wide range of music but my favourites always were singer-songwriters, especially Bob Dylan, neil Young, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and Bruce Springsteen. Two later artists who have greatly imressed me are David Gray and the much missed Rich Mullins. The constant theme is songwriters for whom the words and the music seem to have equal importance and this balance is important to me as a songwriter.
In my early songwriting days various incarnations of neil Young were echoed in many of the songs I wrote. But as I have matured as a writer I think I have managed to find my own voice (and ,unlike Neil Young, I have mellowed!)
The first two albums that I have chosen to present demonstrtae the diversity of my songwriting. Both collections were written and recorded in 2005. "Sour Grapes" was the first to be made. It contains mainly country or country inspired songs, set to sparse arrangements on acoustic 6&12-string guitars. "The Susan Album" was written and recorded immediately after "Sour Grapes" and is very different. The songs were composed and recorded using various keyboard settings - organ, strings, and piano. It is my most (ok, only)structured album as each song tells apart of a story about the rise and fall of first love.
