MP3 Lowfive - The Paths That Lead You Home

First release by the band currently playing as SOFTER. 5-piece indie rock band with keys from northern maine; a weaving of punk and a core of emo make it penetrating and powerful.

9 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Emo, ROCK: Punk

Details:
Indie rock from maine. This is the first effort by the first incarnation of the band now playing as SOFTER.

Lowfive - a 3-piece at the time of this recording - used PATHS... as a stepping stone from a high school hobby to a semi-formal vocation.

Recorded in the band''s project studio over a month-long session in the middle of a snowy maine winter, the production of the album was a big step creatively as well. Largely a project of frontman Gabe Lane (guitar, piano, vocals and some bass) and producer Caleb Chabot (composition, sound samples), the album grew from capturing 3-piece rock tracks to arranging new instrumentation (acoustic guitars, pianos, and layered guitars), experimentation ("Still Photography"), and even composing/solidifying new material ("It Always Snows.." "My Very Mind" "Autumn"). The final result was a rough representation of a band much more sophisticated than that which embarked on the project.

The album has great sentimental value for all those involved with or close to the band at the time of its production. While not apparent to the casual listener, the album tells lots of hidden stories (for example: the title to the instrumental opener "It Always Snows When You''re Here" refers to the daily snowfall during the tracking sessions!)

Following the release of this album in early 2002...
- Sean Higgins joined on rhythm guitar and Caleb Chabot joined the band on keyboards
- Chuck and Matt were replaced several months later by Jason and Ian, respectively
- Sean and Jason left the band about 6 months after that, and were replaced by Jon and Adam, respectively.
- about 4 months into this lineup, the band changed names to SOFTER.
- about a year later, Caleb and Adam both left the band. Adam was replaced by the return of Chuck. Caleb remains un-replaced.
